Dude, just read the Variety article I linked. I'm tired of arguing about things I say that make perfect sense. Every once in a while, it would be nice if someone took the time to back me up on here.

The change in Disney+ policy for streamed movies was a cause celebre, enough for Variety to headline the story.

Presumably the release of the uncensored movie is ushering in a more liberal Disney+ policy. If maybe they had released Hamilton after this policy initiative, then maybe it would have been kept whole. Although Days of Future Past may have been chosen as the test release on Disney+ because it was one of the most successful movies in the film franchise and hasalready been seen by many? What happens to the R-rated movies which were very successful at the box office ? Disney bought the entire FOX library presumably to reinforce its streaming offerings - so it is a bit of a dilemma."

The only R-rated Fox Marvel movies are Logan and the 2 Deadpool movies, and I don't envision a scenario where those ever appear on Disney Plus. Also, the "motherf***ing" in Hamilton would never have been uncensored on there, regardless of any possible leniency. It seems like this is less about Disney Plus, and more about the fact that X-Men is Fox, and Hamilton is an actual Disney film. If it had been released in theaters next year as planned, I'm assuming the exact same cuts would have been made. That doesn't explain why Splash was edited though, since that was Touchstone.

Disagree that a cinema-released Hamilton would have been censored as it is on a Disney channel. I think they would have either released it under a subsidiary company they own (the whole reason Touchstone was created in the first place back in the 80's).

The reason this thread exists is because of an interview Lin-Manuel Miranda gave on the Oscars red carpet in February. Even back then, when it was still a theatrical release, the discussion of censoring had already started, which is a hint that it was going to be released as a Disney film. Along with his work on Moana and Mary Poppins Returns,Lin is now cemented as part of the Disney family, and I highly doubt Touchstone's or Fox's Hamilton was even a consideration.

Miranda, right out of the gate, said he was ok with censoring the language. Since this was an already made "movie" that simply required distribution, it leads me to believe the language censorship had already been discussed with Disney before it was acquired.

And I agree, I don't think there was any discussion to release it as anything other than as a Disney "movie." Disney would have announced it otherwise.

Hamilton, never, and I mean, never, would've/could've/will be released in theaters with an "R" rating. All for 2 'f**cks'? The same kids that want to see Hamilton are not also seeing Deadpool. This isn't an issue of censoring to fight "the system", but to make it accessible to kids that want to see a Broadway show.

Not by Disney. But another studio? It wouldn't have been censored.
