I've kind of been tampering my expectations over the last few weeks, especially with everything that's been going on with the recent surge. And while I know the road ahead isn't entirely smooth sailing, I'm finally allowing myself to get excited.
I'll be at Wicked tonight, and I can't wait. It's my first show since March 2020, and I'm just as excited as I was when I saw it for the first time almost 15 years ago, when it was the show that made me fall in love with theatre. Heck, maybe I'm even more excited. Pre-pandemic, I'd grown so used to seeing shows every week that I'd pretty much come to take it for granted. If there's anything good to be gleaned from this shutdown, it's going to be a newfound (or, maybe, a re-realized) appreciation for how special it is to witness live performances, and how lucky I am each and every time I get to sit inside a Broadway house.
