Ebony Blake, the Hermione from the tour, is unfortunately out on medical leave for cancer treatment. Wish her an easy and speedy recovery! https://gofund.me/549496e3

"Last year, Ebony underwent surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy to treat cancer — all while rehearsing to play Hermione in The First National Tour of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" — with bravery, grace, and grit.

She'd hoped that chapter was closed, but unfortunately, adenoid cystic carcinoma had other plans.

This week, Ebony is undergoing complex surgery at Mt. Sinai in NYC as the next step of this process. Her team is the best of the best and her spirits are high — but our love and support are needed now.

The recovery process will likely be long and may involve additional radiation or surgery, so Ebony has had to step away from the show for the time being. Your contributions will help with medical bills and living expenses, and most importantly, give Ebony and James peace of mind so she can rest and heal."

I recently received a playbill from the LA run of the show and I noticed that Warner Bros Theatre Ventures was an above the title producer. They were not credited during the Chicago engagement and browsing through the programs of engagements of the show since LA they have not retained a producers credit. Anyone have info on what this relationship between the original producers and Warner Bros entailed and why they received a producers credit for LA, but not for any other engagements?

Currently, the tour operates with a 12 day layoff between each city, next season the show will have one day(e.g. closes on a Sunday in one city and opens on Tuesday night in the next). This, likely, means there will be cuts to the over all physical production.

How do they pull off the effects at the end of Part 1 on this tour?

There’s no “lake,” but Scorpius does pop out center stage through a trap door.

I would say they’ve got a second set that leaps to the next city f from where the cast is playing, so one is being used, the other set is being built.

So Portland has recently been confirmed, so no doubt Seattle will be next, then maybe Boise then Las Vegas and Reno, maybe San Diego then into Phoenix.

Are we really still talking casually about this show as if its primary creator - and primary beneficiary of ticket sales - isn't a virulent bigot?

It's playing in New York, London, Netherlands, Hamburg, Tokyo and it's currently on tour. Soon it will be available for licensing in schools. This play has made hundreds of millions of dollars and people are going crazy for Tom Felton on Broadway. I have never read the books, seen the movies or will ever see this play. Clearly many people have different priorities and simply want to be entertained for a few hours. And that's perfectly fine. Most people truly don't care about the personal opinions/actions of creators. The examples of this are endless.

This production doesn’t have a “jump” set.

Trans rights be damned then, I suppose.

Not at all, Trans folks are some of the strongest, bravest people I know. They are just trying to survive every day in this country full of hatred. I was just explaining that many people don't care about her views on the matter. Look at the entire first page of this thread with people commenting on the show and looking forward to seeing it. Posters that are intelligent and well respected around here. And as I said in my prior post, I've never supported her in any way, nor will I be doing so. But millions of other people have a different view on it considering this universe just keeps expanding due to popularity. Unfortunately.

It's very similar to the people who justify seeing Death of a Salesman. They excuse and justify Rudin's behavior (such as assaulting my friend by throwing a crystal vase at him and countless other assistants), so their conscious is clear and they can sleep at night. They can make any excuse they want or say things like "Yeah, but he makes great shows!" or "If he does it AGAIN, I will stop paying him money". All bullsh*t excuses of course, but as I said, many people simply do not care that both of them are abusive and hateful.

"

Okay it was you saying at top of this page that the show will close on Sunday and then play again on Tuesday in a different city, to do that the show will need a jump set for that?

Very few touring productions have a jump set, I believe The Lion King has one. I know the Hamilton tours had doubles of its stage deck, but I believe the current tour just has one; Wicked also has some doubles of its scenic and costume package, but not the entire production is doubled. Wicked, The Lion King, and Hamilton(I believe Phantom, as well) are distinct from other touring productions where they will close on Sunday in one city and open in the next city on Wednesday. Most shows take the Monday as their only off/travel day.

Harry Potter, currently, operates very differently than the previously mentioned shows. Instead of having a “jump set” they utilize 12 days to load out, travel, and load in.

My friend works on the Hells Kitchen tour and it was so interesting to hear all the details. As of a Monday night - and they had a schedule Tuesday night show at 7pm - they had not loaded in the set due to issues with the forklifts, etc. But the show ended up going on fine.

Stereophonic had to cancel its first performance in Chicago this week, because loud out from Cleveland was cancelled on Sunday.

You said top of this thread that Harry Potter is going to change its touring business model in that instead of a 10-12 day pause between production, it is going to closing Sunday and opening in a different city on Tuesday. Do you agree you said that upthread?

If that is the case then it will need a jump set? No?

Isn't the theory here they're scaling down the show to be able to do a 36 hr turnaround instead of the longer breakdown/setup times it currently needs?

The show will be cutting down its touring package next season; this will allow them to complete the Sunday-Tuesday move. They will not be needing a “jump set” in its downscaled configuration.

Okay you simply cannot go from a 10 day takedown/build to a 48hr turnaround, even with a scaled back Potter, the show is still very formidable even in a scaled back format.

Getting the many illusions to work takes testing and time, unless they’re going to cut some of the illusions?
