I don't remember seeing any news about this.
It has not.

I wonder how long it will take. John Doyle's Sweeney Todd recouped in 18 weeks (if I recall correctly).obviously the actors are not doubling as musicians, but I thought with a stripped down design their weekly operating costs wouldn't be so high.

I assume that Jennifer Hudson and Danielle Brooks don't work for cheap.

and not sure if hiring Hudson at a premium was worth it for the show.

Whatever Jennifer was making, she sold a lot of tickets. So I think it was worth it- businesswise.

It's always baffling to me how many people think a small Netflix-only name, like Danielle Brooks, could be raking it in. I don't think you all realize how little actors of her recognition, which actually isn't much, make on Broadway. It's a lot lower than you think...
What Liza said.
I also think it was "worth" having Jennifer Hudson just so she could be on the cast album. Her voice is really really beautiful.
While I agree Danielle isn't making what julia Roberts made, she is probably still making more than tony award winner Cynthia Erivo. I would say somewhere between 8k and 12k. That is a large sum compared to other Broadway actors.
Erivo also just got a bump in her pay due to her Tony win.

I can tell you you are COMPLETELY wrong with that number. Like COMPLETELY! No where even in the ball park.
Without getting involved in the axe-throwing competition over the actual dollar amount, let's look at the forest instead of the trees: it's not enough to meaningfully affect recoupment.
Considering Danielle Brooks was left off of half of the marketing materials originally I don't think she is getting paid the anywhere near the sum we think she is. I think she is making more then the standard supporting actress is, but I think the production and her relationship is mutually beneficial. Yes she portrays a fan favorite character on Orange is the New Black, the show is on Netflix and she does not have much exposure outside of that audience. The Color Purple is solidifying her acting credentials and allows her to show she ismore then just Taystee. In all honesty I don't think she is making much more then the standard Chicago stunt casted lead.
I think Danielle was left off marketing because people didn't realize she could be a draw, but she's getting a lot of press for her performance on OINTB this season (it's amazing) so if she's gonna stay, it's gonna cost them.

No, Jorge. Not at all. You are way off. For some perspective: Hollywood legend Al Pacino was making about $40k / week for CHINA DOLL.

I would take your analysis and insight a bit more seriously if you knew how to properly use "than" over "then." You're going to drive me crazy!!! ETA: "casted" is not a word...

May I enquirer about what? She was left off the marketing materials (fact), she is getting rave reviews this season (fact) and combined with the fact that she was nominated for a Tony (fact) it would likely cost them to keep her.

She doesn't have any leverage. Her name alone is not selling tickets. I assume that's how the poster knows, and I completely agree.
Danielle's name was left off of many of the original subway ads (although if I remember correctly her face was not), nor did she join the cast in any of the original TV appearances (Only Cynthia and Jennifer were mentioned).
Does anyone know how much it needed to recoup?
regardless, whenever Erivo & Brooks leave, they'll need some kind of name in one of the three big roles to keep the show going.
Bump, any update on how much more they need to make and what the initial capitalization was?
