Yo, morons -- learn some reading comprehension.
IF you make the effort to re-read my follow-up posts I CLEARLY state: she LOOKS like a white jewish girl. She obviously ISN'T. I'm stating she LOOKS like a jewish white girl though she is NOT.
Valerie Harper and Anne Bancroft have extensively played jewish women though both actresses are catholic Italian/Americans. Though they LOOK jewish, they are NOT.
Again... I'm not saying Yassmin IS jewish -- I'm clearly (and repeatedly) stating that she LOOKS jewish. Learn to decipher the difference in terminology, folks.

Way to be hyper-defensive.
The part is meant to be played by an African American actress. It wasn't in the Remixed version. Most of the ethnic diversity was removed from that version but I have heard that the actress playing Joanne was one of the few decent parts of the show. I'm not saying a Caucasian girl couldn't be great in the role, but I don't understand promoting a white-wash of RENT.

It was Rent, the story was the same, the music was the same, it was just remixed (badly i admit) but they didn't change characters etc, so sorry but Rent Remixed (as much as a train wreck as it was) does count, after all the Larson Family approved it.Plus it dropped the Remixed part of the title very early on which made it.....Rent

This is why I choose to get belittled here. The wit is unmatched.
TooDarnHot, the slumber parties with his ghost are the best. He gives the best manicures...much better than Fosse but I admit, Fosse rocks it out at "Light as a Feather, Stiff as a board"...you really feel like you're levitating.
Honestly, at the very least the character description/call sheet for Joanne asks that she be black. There is a lot of wiggle room for different races/ethnicities but in the case of Joanne (and Collins) it seems like they're casting that way for a reason. Not everything is explicitly stated and therefore open to interpretation so I don't see why there couldn't be a Joanne of a different race but it just hasn't happened yet. I personally wish that Owen covered Collins or that Telly Leung covered Mark.
Songanddanceman, they made Angel into a stripper who pulled money out of his pants during Today 4 U. I would say they changed the character.
