Am I the only one that isn't exactly thrilled with this casting? Do you think they'll put her hair in the traditional Mrs. Lovett buns? And does anyone have any pictures of her as Mrs. Lovett?

I know you. I know you. I know you.

A question mark would be nice in your title.

Do a search.

A question mark is optional in this case, and the poster has done no wrong.

i saw a picture of Johnny Depp as Todd on Entertainment Tonight last week, and his hair was the stand out, so I dare say Helena's hair will be a real feature.

Why have there been no pictures of her in costume? What are they hiding?

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

It's not like some big secret that she has the part, so why put a question mark? And maybe her part's been toned down at little...no, that's stupid. You can't TONE DOWN Mrs. Lovett!! But, then again, Link, Penny, and Amber, were barely in the Hairspray movie...

Personally, I think she'll be able to act the part well. It's the singing I'm worried about. I have a feeling this will be one of those performances that you either love or you hate.

Mrs. Lovett is going to be personality-free. That's what they're doing to eccentric characters in stage-to-screen adaptations nowadays.

Oh, well, that's just horrible! You can't de-personalize Mrs. Lovett! You have to make Mrs. Lovett really, really, attention-grabbing! And I REALLY hope they don't make her creepy. Personally, I think the cuddly Mrs. Lovett works better. Please, God, don't let them make her creepy.

Tim Burton has actually chosen to have Ms. Carter mime the entire role. She'll be in traditional white face with a black and white striped shirt with a red scarf. The good news is we no longer have to worry about her singing.

If Helena Bonham Carter's career has proven only one thing, it's that she's very versatle. From Fight Club to Sleepy Hallow, the girl can make it work. She's gonna be great, you'll see.

HBC was in Sleepy Hollow?? Don't think so...

I just saw the new Harry Potter movie with HBC in a small role, and she was CRAZY. I can actually see her working in the role of Mrs. Lovett, but will be very curious to hear her singing.

They've probably already been mentioned, but I think Toni Collette or Kate Winslet would be interesting choices for Mrs. Lovett---and we know they can sing.

I seriously can't believe that Sondheim would sign off on Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett unless she could play the role. Even if she is the director's sweetie. Sondheim has been very protective of his work. Would YOU like to be the one to try to talk him into it if she didn't have the chops?

Well, I highly doubt Sondheim had any say in the matter. This is not a revival of one of his shows, this is a movie and Sondheim probably only participated in the casting as an adviser. Perhaps Burton wanted Sondheim's sign of approval but legally-wise, I doubt Sondheim could have done anything to keep Carter from being cast.
Winslet was in the running when husband Sam Mendes (whom I probably would have preferred as director) was slated to direct and Collette auditioned according to rumors but allegedly Sondheim told Burton that Lovett should be older than Todd.
Of the actresses we know were rumored, considered or auditioned at one point or another (Bernadette Peters, Cyndi Lauper, Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Toni Collette, Nicole Kidman), Helena Boham Carter is the most lackluster of the bunch, IMO. However, let's not forget she is an Oscar-nominated actress so I'm sure she won't be a disaster in the movie.

She's a brilliant actress and I've never seen sub-stellar work from her. I trust the role in your hand.
