They mentioned Sondheim in the movie! It wasn't a total waste!
'Stick to the Status Quo' was very 'You Can't Stop the Beat'
They really went overboard with the pitch corrector. The leads' singing sounded really fake.
The Leads Singing sounded fake because it was. Check The Credits or IMDB. The kid who played Troy has a voice double.
That has to be the worst lipsyncing ever because I noticed it when he first opened his mouth. I ran to my computer to check IMDB.
The kid who played Troy has a voice double.
You know what's strange though? When they did a behind the scenes thing online, the actor woke up and started singing and it was the same voice.
But, they mentioned Michael Crawford and Phantom.
my sister was watching this when i walked in the room it looked scary.
The other night when I was babysitting, the little girl was watching it and I found my self watching it, I hate to admit it, but it was pretty good..... I've said too much....
I might regret admitting this but I'm watching the show for the third time as I type and it's beginning to grow on me. Okay, well, parts of the show I enjoy watching. Like I said before, the lip-syncing is terrible, they try a bit too hard, but... I just think Status Quo was a very well done scene. It was staged beautifully and it's just a very catchy song. And the Sharpay and brother moments (I can never remember his name to save my life. He's always "the guy with the hat" to me) are hilarious because they look so incredibly ridiculous.
My kids, (Idina loving 11 yr old, and basketball loving 16 yr old),watch Disney entirely too much and I dread when one their movies is "opening on Friday". They're just so....hokey, and they play the devil out of them!
This little movie was filmed at my son's high school here in Utah last summer, so he's digging all that. The school's name was kept the same too, East High.
But it was a cute movie, and unfortunately for me, I can't get "We're SOARIN', FLYIN'" outta my head. Aaaaah!
I adored it.
It was cheesy, it was corny, and completely far-fetched, but so cute how could you not love it?
I liked how they built the sets pre-auditions. can you imagine? ah, to not even have to worry about the sets in the last weeks of the show..
Also, as people have said, the pairs audition thing was weird, but it worked for the intent of the movie.
I think I would have given the parts to Sharpay and Ryan. They were total bitches, but really friggin good.
All of the kids were really talented; it kind of upset me Zac Efron had a voice double, though. It's not like Disney's hurting with young kids/early 20 year olds that can sing..
I think I'll go and buy the soundtrack sometime soon. And it will probably come out on DVD, because Disney does that with some of its better films (ie, Color of Friendship, which was actually Emmy-nominated. remember the days of AMAZING DCOMs!?), so that will be fun.
[Sorry for the random thought trains..]
Favourite song was definiteily "Stick to the Status Quo;" as most people have said, it is EXTREMELY broadway-esque, great beat, catchy, and the choreography and the idea behind the song was awesome.
If anyone's missed it, it will be on again Wednesday at 8, and Feb 2nd at 8.
stick to the status quo was definately the most broadway-esque song in the movie, i like some of the sharpay songs, cause any character in a movie whose name's sharpay is pretty much my hero
My students came in all excited about it today! I didn't see it as I don't have Disney, but a couple of them promised to tape it for me - so I'll see it eventually. It was cool having kids who aren't normally excited about theater so excited about this movie - whatever the quality. Yes, there were attempts and singing and dancing in my study hall today...
And if my principal is reading this, that wasn't MY room....

He does "singing" in his exclusive videos (Number 7). He also sings on the balcony. That wasn't dubbed and it's him singing.
The rumor is that the person who is credited as his voice only helped him in "Get You Head in the Game". (Probably where he's singing some like: "..hit the right note". Parts like that.)

I watched it. Yes, it was cheesy, but it was semi-good.
And about Troy's voice double, someone on the IMDB boards said this.. Parts of the songs he sings. Take the song Breaking Free. The first line of Troy's is sung by the actual guy, and the rest is by the voice double. and I listened to it again after I read it, and you can clearly tell it's two different people.
But yeah. Sharpay and her brother had some funny scenes. And Stick to the Staus Quo was definately my favorite. :)
Besides "Stick To The Status Quo." i liked the song Bop To The Top" I think that was what it was called....those where the only songs I liked....the singing was very fake with the picture but hey its disney....I love them for their effort....and it was very cute....I always want people in movies to get together in real life

I loved it ! it was so lame it was fabulous. Its sad when ur 17 and you and your friends gather on a friday to watch High School Musical on Disney lol...I loved the brother and sister Duo they were the best.
Rogue, you're right when it comes to "Get Your Head in the Game." His double composed the song, however please correct me if I'm wrong, so I figured he'd want to sing at least a part of it.
And diva in training, don't worry. I'm eighteen and watched it merely because the word "musical" was in it. As I went to school today, I defeatedly admitted that I had watched it and many of my friends said they shamefully watched it as well. I think it's partly because of senioritis, with the psychological yearning for one's childhood, partly because finals is this week and we'd go through any extent to distract ourselves, and well, the rest is a mystery.
My four sisters and I gathered around the TV to watch this. The two youngest hated it, but my other two sisters and I loved it. It was so awful it was good, and my dream is to now be called Sharpay. Seriously.
Stick to the Status Quo was good, but I really liked What I've Been Looking For (the Sharpay and Ryan version, naturally). Their versions were way better.
Gotta love those Disney Original Movies.

This movie was hysterically awful. The singing was so fake and Stick to the Status Quo totally copied You Can't Stop the Beat.
I would honestly have to say that in general though, hysterically awful movies sometimes turn out to be some of the best, and I would say that those movies are sometimes funnier than movies meant to be comedies.
P.S. I thought Sharpay and her brother were hysterical!
"We need to save our show from people who dont know the difference between a Tony, and Tony Hawk"- Wow; just Wow
Wow I remember listening to it at a friend's house and seeing two #s from it. It was the worst thing I had ever seen. The lyrics made almost no sense and the story itself was so unoriginal. That last song when the two kids are singing (I do not know their names) was ok but I would never even think of downloading one song from that "musical" if could call it that.
justagirl2, my dream's to be called sharpay too!
and i was walking around the halls before homeroom today and my friends were talking about it, and the 3 of them(two are 14 and i think the other one's either 14 or 15, i can't remember right now)were saying how they watched all three days, which i did too, except night 3 i watched 1/2 cause i wanted to watch desperate housewives.so in my high school it was definately a sucess(ok well maybe it's a bit of an overstatement considering that all of us are theater geeks, but it appealed to all of us)

Well I'm actually listening to High School Musical right now on itunes... I mean yeah it was really good and the music was good, but I think my whole school is becoming overly obsessed with it. It's slightly sad.
And yes Zac Efferon is incredibly hot.
But it's a fun show, and the sing-along night was fun. Me and all my friends sat on the couch singing all the songs. ((and dancing)) Now we're attempting to break out in song at lunch... but no one ever joins...
wish i saw it.
but i missed it.
It was so bad that it was good. :)
