When I first saw the commercial for this movie, all I thought was, 'this is gonna SUCK!" then I decided to see the movie and I just thought to myself, "wow this is actually good! Shouldn't tell anyone I like it, though." Next day at school everyone started talking about it, keep in mind, I'm a sophmore in high school, and seriously everyone, even the seniors, were singing the songs and stuff.. I think that it's so bad it's good, and the music really is addictive.
And the moonwalk thing that Zac Efron does in Breaking Free is the coolest dance move, I wish I could do that, lol.

I love it.
Plus I started this topic.
UGh - they should have gotten Joss Whedon to write this -- the music is really bad.
And why did the basketball team break into a song right after they made fun of musicals?
I give up - it was too painful.

I agree with those who said it's so bad it's good.
"That girl's name is Gabriella! ...and she is very nice." I laughed out loud at that part.
and i loved the "Evaporate Tall Person!" line.

I loved it. I've got a few friends in it, being a high school actor myself, so I enjoyed it doubly, but really, I'd have loved it anyway. "Status Quo", "Bop To The Top", and "What I've Been Looking For" were the only good songs, though, in my mind. They seemed the least fake -- probably because the second two were actually staged and sung in microphones, while the others were just way too digitized.
Zac Efron can't sing or act. Vanessa Hudgens is great at both. And Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel are fantastic as the theatre aficionados. Otherwise, though, it's just worth a fun watch.

I honestly believe that this could be the next GREASE.
In a good way.
Some of the music sounds a little like Altar Boyz because of the synthesizers and guitars. If this makes the stage, this should definitely be conducted and orchestrated by Lynne Shankel (from Altar Boyz and Princesses). My favorite songs were "Status Quo," "We're All In This Together," and "Breaking Free." My whole family liked that show. And I wouldn't be too surprised if I play this song at my camp and they start singing those songs.

I have a hard time sitting through it except when ultra cute Lucas Gabreel is on the screen.

Yea! I agree with the others it is so bad to the point that it's good. I can't help make fun of all the unrealistic things that are in the it. How can a school only enroll pretty people? Or why is the sexual tension between Gabrielle and Troy so low? Or why is that school the size of a college? Or why do we never see Troys mom again after the first scene in the movie? I could go on and on, but i'll stop.
High School Musical: So bad! It's Good!
P.S. they are going to have a dance-along this week! hooray! We can learn those crappy repetitive dances they did!!!!
I would totally help Lucas Gabreel with his homework.
Or maybe pretend I'm bad at math so he helps me.
Wait... pretend?

My high school seems to be the same size of theirs.
It's interesting to see peoples' opinions on it when it was new, and now everyone hates it, because it's everywhere.
Yes, great reason to bump a two year old thread.
NOT.
