Posted: 5/28/14 at 11:53amThanks for sharing, RW3! Interesting that they've already recorded the show before it even enters previews. Does that happen often?

While not horrible, it sounds like I feared it would: like a talented high school show choir trying to be "edgy." The vocals actually sound nice--there's some very talented singers/rappers in the group--but something about it just seems awkward and uncomfortable.
I wish them the best...I'm sure this hasn't been an easy task.

After listening to those, I have no idea how anyone thinks this show is going to find an audience.

Posted: 5/28/14 at 5:17pmWell at least it's not Lin Manuel's hackneyed "rap" for two hours.

Negative much?!
Why not try and be open to the possibility of this being both good and a hit? We know very little about this production and already so many posters here are predicting its doom.
I for one think its very exciting that this is happening. I don't know if it will be good, but I honor all those involved for expanding the envelope of what is considered, "Broadway".

Do you mean the new, modern, fresh, and completely incredible show, In The Heights? A show that brought Dominican-Americans to the theater, provided us with a diverse cast rarely seen on Broadway, and a score that was song by gorgeous young Latin performers to original music that a ton of people actually want to listen and dance to? And won the Tony for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Orchestrations? Cool.
These samples sound good, I do hope the show does well.

Yes, afraid I agree, though I think they did a decent job pulling off "California Love". One of the problems is that a good deal of good or great rap music is as much about the production as it is about the actual rapping/flow of the rapper - not always easy to recreate live.
I'm not sure who the audience will be either. 38 year olds who want to relive their prom?

I'm guessing we won't be getting a lot of first preview reports on Monday night?

Posted: 5/30/14 at 1:50pmThese recordings sound very flat in comparison to seeing/hearing some of the same songs in the rehearsal video that was posted a few weeks ago. Thinking that things are getting lost in the transition between stage and this audio recording, because I found the rehearsal video much more exciting.

The seating chart was shocking. I couldn't believe it. If you look at every show for a month after previews start the sales are similar. Some of the seats "sold" appear to be house seats on hold. It's possible that they could have a $100,000 opening week in a 1700+ house.

Posted: 5/30/14 at 3:36pmI think with the renovation of the theater, the seating cpacity is reduced to 1300 seats. And there will be plenty of reports-they house will be full with paper.

Has anyone even seen the show yet? Or are these comments about it's failure merely speculation at this point?
I have tickets on Tuesday. Anyone know the run time?
