But like Sondheimite said, this is a theatre discussion board, and in New York, theatre is a commercial industry. When a show posts grosses like Kinky Boots has been lately, it's not out of the ordinary to talk about its fate. Kinky Boots is a Tony-winning, wildly successful show that's already the 32nd-longest running show of all time. This isn't like I'm trying to make a helpless underdog of a small show look bad. Conversations like this are how the industry works, looking back on its past and looking forward toward its future."
Yeah, this is a theatre discussion board run by you, BC! But carry on, I guess...
It's whatever, man. What I love is what I love! Those old farts that believe their opinions are so uber important because they sawthe original Hello Dolly a million times are a bit questionable, but what do I know, honestly? I don't live in New York, but that doesn't make me some outcast member of the board who doesn't understand how theater works! But really, like I said, it's whatever, man!"
Calm down. I'm in my mid/late twenties and work in the industry. I'm not an old fart, I'm an up and comer who understands how the business of theatre works. I didn't live in the city when I got the knowledge base that I gained. No one is telling you not to love Kinky Boots or that you're an idiot, you're not listening. If you don't want to take part in a discussion then be an adult and don't ask the people taking part of the discussion to change their discussion in order to make you more comfortable.

There are PLENTY of "old farts" on this board in their twenties and thirties!!
I wouldn't call Ballas a big name. He didn't help Jersey Boys when he was in it. Odds are the bring Andy Kelso back for it's final 2 months.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
The audiences at Jersey Boys were pretty lively when he appeared, and he was very impressive (I saw him twice). But wasn't he announced along with the closing? So I'm not sure if any boost in sales was due to him or the closing...

Yes, Ballas was announced as the final Frankie Valli concurrently with JB’s closing notice. He certainly wasn’t a contributing factor to the show closing or anything.
It sounds to me with Ballas’ short stint that the next announcement from KB will be closing, along with its final Charlie and Lola.
I know it won't happen, but I would love for Billy Porter and Stark Sands to return and close the show - (REALLY thought their run last year signalled the end of the show)

I really think that the producers had lined up Porter/Sands to come back and close the show before Brendon Urie started last summer, and then we all know how good Urie was for the grosses, so they decided to push on longer.

This.
I wonder if Porter would come in and close out the run without Sands? Sands was only in it for about 11 months originally (and now has To Kill A Mockingbird), but Porter stayed for about 2.5 years.
Not to dis Sand's work in the show, but Lola is the more iconic moment. So I could see Porter returning. Although with the success of Pose he might be tied up.
Can Ballas sing the score? It's not an easy show to sing, which is why they tended towards rock stars...
Yeah, Porter might be filming POSE. but Ghee has earned the honor to close the show, IMO. If anything, Andy Kelso could be brought back to close as Charlie.

Unless they can get another big name (Ballas isn't a big name) or have Urie or Wayne Brady return, it really needs to close at the end of the year.

Which dates?"
At the moment (all Wednesdays): August 29th 2:00PM, September 5th 2:00PM, September 5th 8:00PM, September 12th 2:00PM
You never know Urie was a pretty well kept secret so there may be another on its way. KB always does better in the fall - something about a chill in the air and the need for boots. If the theater isn't needed and the show is paying its bills I am sure Jujamcyn Theater's President Jordan Roth will let his mom Daryl Roth, Kinky Boots lead producer, keep her flag planted until the next show comes in. And check the final months/years on other long running shows if history repeats KB will be with us for a bit more.

For whatever it's worth, Brendon Urie has spoken very highly of his experience in the show and should timing work out with his tour schedule I'm sure he would return if offered.
Some may be making up stories....the r&r are (from MTI's website): currently restricted. Expected general release is UNKNOWN. Currently available for limited international licensing.
(Unless you arent in the US)
That means they wont commit to any dates.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I heard through some sources the rights will be available very soon.
