I heard through some sources the rights will be available very soon.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
When I looked at tickets over the summer, I noticed they were only available through Mid January. I checked again the other day, and now they're only available through Febuary 17th. Maybe that's the closing date??
I noticed that a few regional productions are popping up in different states for late 2019 and early 2020....
I'm assuming someone slipped in posting that on Twitter and now the producers were forced to make a formal announcement. It is 7 months in advance, they were probably going to wait until just before the holidays to make an announcement.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. It would make sense to announce later with a stunt cast. Example, Catch David cook as he closes out the factory! Or something like that.

It would take a lot of errors to post something up that wasn't meant to go out for months. They had a graphic made and copy written - and that doesn't happen more than a week or month in advance. There was clearly a plan to announce it today, and then they changed their mind (or pushed the press release) and failed to cancel the social post. I'm very, very glad I'm not that community manager.
My guess: The producers were planning to inform the actors sometime this weekend at the show (maybe after tonight's show was always the plan). In the process of scheduling the Tweet to go out, someone from the ad/marketing agency probably made an innocent mistake and it went out too early. I highly doubt they were planning for an announcement a few weeks from now.
And it's not uncommon for a show to announce months in advance, especially a long-running show. It could help drive sales for the final 6 months. Matilda, Les Mis, Fiddler, and Mamma Mia all announced closings 5-9 months in advance. And RENT announced a June closing 6 months in advance, and then extended through September because of the demand.
