Starts previews next week, anyone else planning to go?
Syracuse is a bit far from the city to make a day trip of it but this certainly seems interesting, I feel like I saw Hal Prince was attached to it at some point before he died?
Anyone have any buzz on this....

One of their lead producers was mentored by Hal & is a recipient of the Prince Fellowship award I believe. This in my opinion has commercial prospects. Haven’t seen anything from the show yet but I’ve heard good things and it all around seems like a really warm and endearing piece!

I do two to three day trips from Syracuse a month, day trips are possible!
I would like to see this while it is here, will report back if I’m able to.

Is the full cast on the spectrum? I can see the Twitter/TikTokers going crazy if this ever hits Broadway.

Yes, they explicitly looked for performers on the autistic spectrum. They have also had ASD creative consultants and sensitivity readers throughout the entire process.

The Greyhound is definitely the easiest! And it’s a cheap Uber to the theatre.

Just saw the "first look". That song alone made me want to see this. Would love it if they brought this into NYC.

I saw this tonight and mostly enjoyed myself, but it needs a lot of work if it has plans for Broadway.
It has great bones but there are two major things that need to be addressed.
1. The length. This show is far too long for what it is. With intermission it ran about 2 hrs and 35 minutes tonight. There is A LOT if padding and subplots that either don’t go anywhere or are uninteresting. I think they really wanted to give everyone their own “major” storyline and it just didn’t work. I think there is a REALLY great 100’ish minute one act musical here. Also, for a show that is so long, it is really missing a BIG emotional moment (see something like Unruly Heart from The Prom, a musical that was even referenced in the show).
2. The ending. It just kind of fizzles out. It needs to end leaving you on a high. Instead we got some subpar choreography and it just kind of ends. It felt like they had no idea how they wanted to end it.
How to Dance in Ohio was sweet and enjoyable. I would give it a solid B right now and I’m curious to see what work (if any) they do and what happens with it. It has SO MUCH potential - I hope they take their time and really fine tune it.
I can answer any questions if anyone has any!

How funny— watching the b-roll I very quickly thought to myself ‘Gee, this is giving off major Prom vibes’, which is great. It’s a fantastic show. How is it referenced?!?

When the idea of the dance comes up, one of the students says something like “like the musical The Prom! I love that show!”

Both shows canceled today due to numerous Covid cases in the cast.

Due to the numerous COVID cases in the cast, it has been announced this morning that the remainder of the Syracuse run is cancelled. It played it’s final performance on Saturday, October 1st.
What a bummer— was glad to see it get great notices and I’m very excited for where it goes next. Sending so much love to the cast, crew, and production staff who poured their hearts into this.
