Jordan, two words Kerry O'Malley.

Why would you say those words to me? What did I do to you ever?
The majority of industry people read this board for laughs. Many of the regulars are so snarky and mean-spirited, it's somewhat pathetic they can find some semblance of serenity when the lights are off and the curtain is up. Guess that's what happens if you're not having true relationships? Then again, we'll take anyone's money even the whack jobs.
I come here when a show opens to get a recap of notices and might, occasionally check out a thread on the message board. This one caught my eye since the self-involvement of the cult fascinates most industry people. Thanks for that, at least. LOL
So...you're better than everyone here, is what you're saying.

Oh I like you Jordan! I just know what peeves you the most! Kerry O'Malley.
So a lot of the posters on here are "snarky and mean-spirited," but your post wasn't?
And you're misinformed about industry people "reading this board for laughs." The industry insiders I know of may get a kick out of the ridiculous cattiness that can pop up every now and then (who doesn't?), but that doesn't mean they don't read threads, particularly comments on out of town tryouts or previews. Doesn't mean they make any changes at all based on what we say, but they're also not exactly sitting on their high horses, thumbing their noses at us for caring about theater or posting our opinions on the shows we see.
Let's get real, this board has no effect on what happens on Broadway. But it is breezed through and read by some theater insiders.

Strobe lights are to epileptics what the name Kerry O'Malley is to Jordan Catalano.
Short answer; no, the Broadway World boards has no bearing on what happens on Broadway.
Longer answer; message boards in general, but particularly this one, are either avoided or made fun of by industry professionals. I'm facebook friends with two well-known directors in particular who are constantly posting threads from this site onto each other's walls and quoting specific posts mockingly.
I guess everyone forgets when Anthony Rapp had to come here to defend the ReNt film and we had to call the wahhh-mbulance!!!
We are Broadwayworld. We are legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us.
Are those the masks from "Eyes Wide Shut?"
More like "V" for Vendetta, besty.

I think many people underestimate the internet.
Think of all the performers with a twitter account, checking every day what people say about them. 90% of the performers and other Broadway people search for their own name in Google, to see what is written about them. People are always looking for self-affirmation, especially performers.
The internet is a smaller world than many people might think.
You would be surprised how many performers and other people working in the business are lurking here.

Many of the greatest "well-known" directors have flops on their resumes, flops for which they were in good measure responsible. I guess mocking legitimate criticism of their shortcomings is a way of salving their egos ---- a very immature way --- but that won't make their work any better, or invalidate the criticism of it.
Wholly aside from the odiousness of it, I don't think biting the hand that feeds you makes good business sense, though it happens all the time in the world of the theatre. One day that hand may just decide to stop feeding you.
On that day "well-known" directors, authors, et al. may not be laughing so hard.

Only 10 of them posted something. I wonder who the 8680 other people are.....
Dave - your stats are fascinating. Where did you make them up? Er, I mean find them?
-- all the performers that check twitter every day for info on themselves.
-- 90% of performers google themselves
-- Only 10 people posted on this thread (Try FOUR times that)
I don't actually disagree with much of what you said, just your choosing of "facts".

Common sense.
Do you realize how many performers are active on twitter? Do you think they do not read anything about themselves?
Ask every single performer you know if he/she has googled himself and you have the answers. And the 10% who say they never did it probably lie. There is no getting around it nowadays.

Truer words were never spoken.
Of course they're going to mock the posters on here. Because the fact is many criticisms leveled at various shows on here have a lot of truth to them.
The truth hurts, and we all know how thin skinned people in the industry can be.
What person under the age of 60 HASN'T googled themselves at least once?
You can't give STATS based on common sense. That's not the way stats work.
I hear if you Google yourself too often, you'll go blind.
I wonder if we can ask any of the lurkers here to verify that.
it is telling who are most upset with the "poisonous atmosphere" comment... the ones most responsible for creating it.
So you were upset by the comment too then.
not at all, i agree with it
I would think that the news coverage provided by the site is very important.
The message boards, just candy for the mind.
