Irving Berlin's much-storied trunk. Diving in could make you rich, like taking a header into Scrooge McDuck's famed money bin #2.
"Smile and Show Your Dimple, and folks'll think you're simple" became "In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it."

(And "No One Is Alone" is "Candy Man" from WILLIE WONKA.)
OMG, it is...

All of Sondheim's songs.
Sondheim is really a dentist in Short Hills NJ.

No, just the first six notes are the same (although even so the rhythm is different). After that they are completely different songs.

Here is SUNFLOWER. It it interesting to compare, but truly, the similarity is minuscule.

"My White Knight" was undoubtably written by Willson. It actually is another of his counterpoint songs that didn't come to fruition in the play. It works side by side with "Sadder but Wiser Girl".
When we recorded the studio cast album with the Cincinnati Pops, they included this version of the songs on the disc (approved by the Willson estate, who did not let other cut songs be placed on the disc). Check it out. it's on the TELARC label from 1991.

There's a comment earlier in this thread stating that Frank Wildhorn writes his own songs.
One of the production team from Victor Victoria has stated that the arranger had to re-write everything submitted by Wildhorn for that show.
I think the contributions from arrangers/orchestrators cannot be minimized, particularly when discussing scores written by people who can't read or write music.

To me, this is as pointless as having a discussion as to wheather Ophelia falls into the river by accident, or actually means to kill herself.
Yes, its been said that "Elegance" was written by Bob Merrill. Okay. But, David Merrick told Herman that he wasn't sure about him, because of 'Milk And Honey". Herman was "American" enough. Therefore, I can see Herman writing "Motherhood".
As for "Before The Parade Passes By', there is that legendary story about Herman writing it in the hotel room in Detroit. Then calling Carol Channing and Gower Champion. That is what really happened if you asked Channing or Herman. So that's what I'm believing, as it is coming, (for lake of better words) from the horses' mouth!

What songs from The Producers were not written by Brooks?
I don't think it would have been individual songs. Glenn Kelly would have been involved in the process very heavily, making sense of Mel Brooks' ideas.
