I just looked at buying group tickets for me and a bunch of friends, and the price quoted from Broadway Inbound was about $8 more than direct from telecharge singly, even including the service fees. Is that normal? Seems like no benefit to buying as a group.

There's no need for the production to discount for groups. It will sell-out its engagement with Jackman and it does not require blocks of group tickets to boost its numbers. This is very normal for hit shows (Hadestown, Hamilton, Dolly, etc).
As for the $8 price increase, I would guess that the production might be raising its prices on those individual tickets soon.

Right mezz row A seat 30 seems to be popping quite a bit. That’s the same seat I got earlier this week for a Sunday matinee performance in September. Can’t beat front row mezz for $99 even if it is far right.

I can just give you my experience. For a few recent years when some of my favorite shows were being given first class revivals I saw them once in previews and at least twice thereafter.They were The King and I, On the Twentieth Century, My Fair Lady and Kiss Me, Kate.
With the two Lincoln Center Theater Bart Sher productions I couldn't describe any differences between previews and after openings. Maybe Ken's diction got a little better after opening. A funny thing about that production was that some had trouble understanding the King and others didn't and both groups were sincere.
I saw a first week preview of Twentieth Century and it was fine, but Peter Gallagher was out that night and the audience was at a higher energy level the second time I saw it. If this was the last show that Kristin Chenoweth will ever do with difficult vocals, high energy dancing and hands-on physical humor, she really went out in style.
Kiss Me, Kate was unusual in that I saw the first preview and the last preview. The only hangup I can think of in that first preview was in the slapstick comedy segment where Kate and Petruchio hit and kick each other, Kelli and others I guess wanted the spanking out. In the first preview they clearly were still experimenting with that scene and they didn't know how to bring it to a close. By the last preview they had it figured it out very well.
With a show as established as Music Man, and with top cast and creatives, I think the previews will be fine. Like CT2NYC wrote, the last week of previews is a good time to see the show. I would say that after the first week of previews you probably have nothing to fear, except to check that the stars will be in the lineup.

But if you are able to get seat numbered 30, there are still 6-7 seats further to the side. Seat 28 was $244 all in, seat 30 was $114 all in. Seems a good bet to me. To date, I have never paid that much to see a show and I don’t love TMM...seeing it because I expect HJ to be incredible in it...seems a perfect fit.

Just got a call back from “Shubert Org” and was able to get better seats at a lower price (albeit a few months later than my original seats), so I’m happy.

I hadn't checked tix for this until now -- but I'm looking at Oct/Nov/Dec. Am I seeing right that there are no "Premium" tickets for this? I don't even see that as an option -- and there are zero blue seats showing up. The only orchestra seats I see are random singles and some back corner blocks later on. Is this THAT sold out, or are things not fully "released" yet?

I wouldn't rule out a later release of some tickets for Oct-Dec shows, but those do seem to be largely sold out, especially in the more premium seating areas. I bought my tickets the morning they went on sale and had to search a number of dates before a pair that I really wanted popped up. I do know initially they weren't selling row AA right in front (they initially sold BB as the first row) so that seating opened up when they officially announced the Winter Garden, but soon after the announcement those appeared to be mostly sold as well.
There are a ton of tickets for these shows that are $500+ regular price and they're already sold out. I feel like this show is going to crush weekly gross records right away.

Hi, sorry - this is my Broadway ignorance showing - it never occurred to me that the stars WOULDN'T be performing in the previews - is that not uncommon? That's definitely a huge consideration for me.

Tickets went on sale a few months ago. I think I purchased them in October. I didn't know what theater the show was going to be at but since Hugh is in it I bought seats. I believe there were premium tickets available when the show first went on sale. I think I paid 3 something for center row orchestra row L. My guess is the show is selling out because it has been on sale for so long. I just checked back for the day of my show and it only has 3 random seats available but the day I bought tickets there were around half of them available.

For $99 ($114), I will deal with side view too, given the usurious prices. Based on that picture, I would be pretty upset if I paid $229 ($244) for A28, though. When I get frustrated if I miss any back of the stage (right?) action, I will reflect on the fact that the person right next to me is in the same situation, and paid $130 more for his / her ticket (more if it ends up on Stubhub).
I remember seeing both Mame and Follies once from the boxes, which are even more to the side that A-E30 (because the seats were like $3.00 -$3.25, and I was a high school / college freshman when I saw them respectively). I remember missing some action in the rear of the stage and that the choreography patterns in Mame particularly looked different from the extreme side, but I still enjoyed both immensely. With Follies, I was on the 'correct' side of the house for viewing Beautiful Girls from extreme side seats.
I can't imagine that HJ and SF are going to be be lurking in the back of the stage, extreme sides, especially given the Wintergarden layout; hopefully, I am right. Keep my fingers crossed. At least this way I will see it. I don't like MM enough to pay $250, even with HJ who seems born to play Howard Hill. Saw him in Boston on October 1, and he was just as charismatic in Boston Garden as at the Imperial, the last timeI saw him in a musical. I find it amazing that that charisma does not translate into film, where I think he is good, but lacks...charisma.

Based on the current calendar for which they are selling tickets -- it looks like they are NOT selling tickets for a whole week in mid-March 2020 (March 15 to 21). Is that when Hugh goes on leave...and they may be opting not to do performances ( just like for TheBoyFromOz when the Imperial chose to go dark when HJ was on leave) instead of getting an understudy or standby to perform for him? Or they have not yet decided on what to do?

Any idea what the stage door would be like? I'm imagining it to be packed, but with all the backlash against the Beetlejuice situation, now I'm not so sure. Considering the many comparisons to the Hello, Dolly revival, would this be more/less packed than that?
