I saw this article on playbill: http://www.playbill.com/news/article/alan-menken-and-stephen-schwartz-turn-hunchback-into-a-stage-beauty-332633
It says that there are ten new songs, some from Berlin and others that were written specifically for the American adaptation (and a new ending which is besides my point). I personally love all of the songs added in Berlin, particularly Esmeralda, Tanz Auf Dem Seil, and Wie Aus Stein.
Which songs from the Berlin production do you think will stay and which do you think will be cut?

Posted: 10/13/14 at 5:53pmThe song "Esmeralda" has already been confirmed. The others I believe are shoe-ins are "Made of Stone" and "Someday". The rest might be on shaky ground.

Posted: 10/13/14 at 5:55pmI can't wait to see "Someday". It was so beautifully staged in Germany.

Posted: 10/13/14 at 8:08pmAre some songs from the film included in the show? I just saw the film again recently and cannot wait for the musical.

Posted: 10/13/14 at 8:18pm^Of course! Most of the songs from the movie will be included. If anything, I think that A Guy Like You and Court of Miracles will be cut.

I thought about how amazing "Court of Miracles" would be onstage though. It would be a wonderful ensemble number.
What's being done about the gargoyles? Are they going to be in the show?

Posted: 10/13/14 at 9:14pmWell, I'm just speculating, dreaming. =) They keep hammering the idea that it will be a dark show, so I keep thinking they'll just cut any upbeat songs, but who knows?

Posted: 10/13/14 at 9:22pmSo will Esmeralda die in this version? I just can't wait to see how they stage GOD HELP THE OUTCASTS. In Germany it was just beautiful, the breathtaking cathedral set with all the candles...chilling.

Posted: 10/13/14 at 9:50pmI hope "Top of the World" will stay. And I hope they add "As Long as There's a Moon" or "In a Place of Miracles", these 3 songs are gorgeous

Posted: 10/13/14 at 11:10pmWe don't even know if this is coming to Broadway...yet! But if it does, I'm sure we will most likely see it sometime in the 2015-16 season, as 'Aladdin' came in during the 20th anniversary of the Broadway premiere of 'Beauty & the Beast', 'Hunchback' could come in during the 10th anniversary of the Broadway premiere of 'Tarzan'.

Posted: 10/13/14 at 11:28pmI doubt the 10th anniversary of one of their failed shows is something Disney is considering. Whether or not the show comes to Broadway will largely depend on how successful these two tryout productions are received.

Posted: 10/13/14 at 11:43pmI highly doubt they would put up 2 regional theatre productions around the same time if this show didn't have an eye for Broadway. I even think Paper Mill slated this show as being Broadway-Bound so these productions are being used as their out of town tryout. Does anyone else feel like this is going to end up being a flop like Tarzan? It might not be a flop because it's Disney but I feel like this show is gonna get slammed with bad reviews but we'll seee

Posted: 10/13/14 at 11:45pmCATSnyrevival, you spur a question that I have been thinking. Why is Hunchback having 2 out-of-town tryouts?
Hunchback at La Jolla and Papermill Songs#22
Posted: 10/13/14 at 11:54pmAladdin also had 2 out of town tryouts; one in Seattle, and the other in Toronto. I guess its just because Disney always puts on big musicals with a lot of production values so they probably need more time to work on them. Disney shows are also really hard because they need to figure out how to make animated characters from the movie come to life, and make it work without being tacky.

Whether or not this is a success has less to do with what reviews it gets and more to do with marketing and whether enough people are interested in the title. Disney has always had the children's market to rely on and they won't have that crutch with this show.
Consider this: it doesn't even have the Disney logo on either of the out-of-town posters. It's not a family show; they'll have a more difficult time marketing this than any other animated film adaptation they've done.

Posted: 10/14/14 at 12:25amI mean I know they have an allegiance with Papermill, but it still seems odd to do an out-of-town tryout like 20mins from NYC. Everyone is going to go see it. But I'm curious to see how it's received and what is changed from La Jolla to Papermill since technically Papermill hasn't announced that the La Jolla cast is transferring.
