They are being transparent and clearly stating you’ll be fed.  If you’re looking for paid background/extra work, this obviously ain’t for you. GOSSIP GIRL clearly states background/extra work is zero money and they’re overwhelmed with people applying. Applying is at your own risk so your statement has zero relevancy.

That can't possibly be right. Gossip Girl operates under a standard SAG contract and pay it's non-union BG, I believe, minimum wage for a 10 hour day.
