Lin could and should play Usnavi.  The character's age is never referenced.  with some make up and a wig he could easily pull off a 20-something Usnavi

Mhmm with a 15 million budget? I know I was just saying it was too low but it seems a little high to gear it for video on demand. And In the heights even without the Hamilton association has way more wide appeal the the last five years. JRB, despite his talent can't write a commercial hit to save his life. 

It will probably get a wide release or at least semi wide.

Yeah, I feel like this could be like Rent. But like that movie, I never saw the stage show so I probably won't dislike it as much as those who did.

They need to get Spike Lee on the phone fast. He's the obvious choice to direct it. I mean, he's basically already made this movie twice before. Do the Right Thing, the summer's hottest day in an African-American Brooklyn neighborhood; Summer of Sam, a hot summer in an Italian-American Bronx neighborhood; and In the Heights, the summer's hottest day in a Latino Manhattan neighborhood.  Come on, Spike, complete the trilogy!

I think Naya Rivera could probably be a good Vanessa. She has the voice and name recognition.

Lin has nowhere near a good enough voice for Piragua Guy---that should be the best voice in the movie!

I'd personally like to see Belita Moreno, who was a major stage presence in the 1980s, as Abuela. Rita and Chita may be legends, but they have had so much exposure that their legacy is already cemented. I'd like to see Belita get some lasting exposure, especially given that her most recent work on "George Lopez" as Benny seems to be out of streaming and syndication due to rights issues. Moreno is too good to be forgotten, and LMM would work well with her caustic warmth.

I am pretty sure they reference Usnavi as a baby in 1987 in the the song "Everything I Know". Personally i think Lin is to old and someone younger would work better in film. Rita Moreno would be my guess for abuela.

With a budget of $15 million, there's not going to be any stars, unless there are some who want to do it basically for free because they love the show.

Which largely had to do with her love of the project.

Now with every celebrity being obsessed with Hamilton, I feel like they have a much bigger pool of options than they had a few years ago (of singing actors who would do it on the cheap).

Can we find a place for Sara Ramirez in it please?
