Much like my question a few weeks ago about who is directing/choreographing Grand Hotel at Encores in March (still not definitively answered, as far as I can tell)...
...another question has me scratching my head: have there really been no annoucements of any other cast members for the Denzel Washington/George C. Wolfe Iceman Cometh? It starts previews 2 months from now so would begin rehearsals in just a week or 2, I think, and with a cast size of around 20 I'm surprised that nothing (as far as I can see) has been posted, announced, or even leaked out. Not that they need anyone else to sell tickets aside from Denzel... but I'm crossing fingers for there to be some interesting names filling up some of the rest of the parts (the last Broadway revival in 1999, starring he-who-shall-no-longer-be-named, had, among others, Paul Giamatti, Katie Finneran, Michael Emerson, Robert Sean Leonard, Clarke Peters, Tim Pigott-Smith, Tony Danza, etc.)
Anyone have any scoop/rumors?

Yes, that and the fact that it only runs 14 weeks. That photo of Bobby reading the play seems pretty probative to me.

I love Joe Forbrich! He's an excellent actor. Got to see him perform in Chicago with Shattered Globe years ago.
I'd also love to see Bobby Cannavale in this. I'm hoping his post wasn't a throwback to his performance in "The Hairy Ape" and he's actually in it. I'm going to buy my tickets soon either way. Can't miss with George C. Wolfe and Denzel.

Posted: 1/5/18 at 9:45amI don’t think that Cannavale is beyond a supporting role on stage - his role in the recent Jumanji movie was pretty minor. I’d be very excited to see him in this.

I'm excited to see Bill Irwin, Frank Wood, and David Morse in the cast. Was hoping for Bobby Cannavale but this cast is solid.

I was hoping for some more exciting names, but I know these actors are far from hacks, and I'm sure they will be great.
Very happy to see Bill Irwin in the mix. I've been lucky enough to see him in a handful of shows over the years, but never on Broadway! It occurs to me that he could deliver a fabulous performance as Hickey, if given the chance, but of course I'm very excited for Denzel.

I guess they're banking on Denzel being a draw enough- and he may be, but this is a *long* play.

I was also hoping for a little more star power, but like you said, the actors they went with are all very underrated. Bobby Cannavale would have been so great. I love Bill Irwin though. He was fantastic in Waiting for Godot.

David Morse should be a PERFECT Larry Slade. That role is really just as important as Hickey, if not more so (by any standard dramatic study, Larry Slade is the protagonist of the play – Hickey being the antagonist). No matter who's playing Hickey, the play absolutely doesn't work without the right actor as Slade, and it looks like they've found a good one.

With the excitement of Harry Potter and Angels in America, I keep forgetting that this is happening, even with Denzel on the marquee. I'll probably have to wait to hear about the first few previews before I decide to commit to this.

Interestingly (and confusingly), as someone on the other board pointed out, the character of Rocky - the role some above surmised Cannavale might be best suited for, and the role Tony Danza played in the most recent Broadway revival - isn’t mentioned at all. Is it possible they have one more surprise currently being hammered out in negotiations?
On the one hand, it clearly says in all the releases “Conplete Cast Set”. On the other, I’ve never seen a production of Iceman (and I’ve seen 4, plus the 2 available on video) that cuts the character of Rocky entirely, so it’s hard to imagine that’s what they’re doing here. But maybe it is.
