This is charming as all hell, but I don't understand why she's not using the lower more humane Broadway key that Caissie Levy sang it in?

How completely embarrassing. Amateur level. Although I suppose if she got at least 75% of the other notes right, the audience can’t claim a refund.
I’m surprised that this was posted back in April and didn’t go viral then.
lol this is a video from one performance of her show a year ago. What is the point of this post? I’m pretty sure there are some songs she does with the key lowered. She flubbed this note this day and instead of being boring and not doing anything she acknowledged it with humor. She turned a moment of not sticking the landing into something enjoyable anyway.
By this logic, Idina should have had keys lowered for both post-Tony and West End runs of Wicked.
This is funny. It shows her humanity and sense of humor. Sometimes she nails it and others she doesn’t, it’s not that deep. I have seen her three times in concert (albeit this was before Frozen), you’re paying to see someone that is publicly not a ‘pitch perfect’ performer nor has she ever been one. It’s not like you’re going to see Adele or Whitney and they can’t hit any of their big notes. You’re seeing Idina. Expectations should be managed.
That middle finger at the end made me LOL.
Idina has always owned up to all her voice cracks and has even mentioned on countless interviews that her voice cracked during her first initial audition for WICKED. She’s very well aware that her voice is a hit or miss - it’s not always working in her favor.

LOL, totally missed that. Would have thought my autocorrect had her name solidified by now. I’ve only been talking about her on the internet for two decades…
I still don't understand the lovefest for Idina. She should have lowered the keys to "Let It Go" & "Defying Gravity" years ago. Let's all admit she's not a strong singer.

Same
Never been a fan of her singing
she sounds like a screaming cat most of the time
I rolled my eyes so hard when the rumor of she playing Fanny Brice came out
I saw an early bootleg of Wicked and her vocals were surprisingly pitch perfect. Nothing like the tony performance where she seemed all pitchy and out of breath.
The quality of her live performances seem to vary greatly.
Yet every studio recording always sounds perfect with that classic/iconic Idina sound. For me it’s this that keeps me coming back. Feels like the original pop voice on the Broadway stage is Idina and everything that came after is a derivative version of it.
I went to Redwood on a day where she didn't sound the greatest to me - however, I really do think she's an incredible actor. I thought the show was puzzling at best (and all the people on stage with her gave very, very bizarre performances - lol) but she was magnificent, even in bad voice. I also think it is so deeply cool of her to shepherd in and champion exclusively new musicals on Broadway. That's something that will always keep me a fan. And her studio vocals, as Binau said.
I'd kill to see her in a revival of basically anything right now, but god, I respect her so much - for this and many reasons.

That’s totally fine that people don’t get it. For the people that do love her like myself—the positive qualities of her work and what she represents far outweigh her inconsistencies. Idina in good voice is probably one of my favorite things I’ve experienced in a theater but even Idina in decent voice has depth & personality that moves me more than a lot of other performers with more vocal consistency who simply don’t have her perspective & grit.
If you want a more removed/analytical take on why she’s become such a star—she knows who she is & she has become someone who is both absolutely extraordinary & incredibly flawed all at once, and that allows people to project themselves onto her and see themselves in her. The characters she is famous for playing also embody these characteristics, so she, like many stars, is not just valued for her talent or skill but the overarching symbol and story she means to people & how they see themselves. Idina allows people to see an extraordinary & empowered version of themselves because they also feel like she’s human & would “get” them—it’s the charm of the video at the beginning on this thread. She is humanly imperfect, and that is the foundation of many big stars.

I'm not even a fan, but this is absurd.

In my opinion Idina's voice has been shot for years but this is why I will always accept a new musical from her. No one seems to take her seriously as an actress and I find her quite...radiant? I don't know a better word to describe it. Even in her very limited film and television roles I always find her so engaging.
Completely agree. One of the pull quotes the If/Then team loved (and hung outside the theater!) was "Idina Menzel is a blazing supernova" which... nail, meet head.
