Idina + Philip + ALW + England = a bloody brilliant show.
Heck - if they go with Madonna - why not also get Banderas...
"Heck - if they go with Madonna - why not also get Banderas... "
Because that might get more expensive than necessary.
If they cast Menzel they are trying to find someone who will live in the spirit of LuPone ....A sucky actress who screams everyword that she utters
EDIT: Sry, i just dislike both of them. Also Patti isn't that bad of an actress.

I think Madonna is getting a tad old to be pulling off Evita well.
And Idina, though I love her, I don't really think she has the type of sound appropriate for that role.
Only one person can play this role now : Caroline O'Connor.

Pretty put into into that role and I see the hottest thing coming. Her in all her glory All else I would have to hope for if she got the role, is her vocal condition

...Just when I thought Idina renewing her contract in Wicked (when she did way back when to stay through January '05) was the worst thing she could do for her voice. I seriously hope she doesn't get this part. The extension of her run in Wicked was destroying her voice, starring in Evita would murder her.
Sidebar, I saw Lisa Brescia play the part at the Gateway Playhouse and not only was she AMAZING, but she was also doing all 8 shows a week for a good chunk of the run. Craziness.
And I second - and subsequently third and fourth - them opening a revival in the states starring Alice Ripley. Actually, make it a revisal; I really need them to cut all the songs Eva isn't in. I could really do without "Peron's Latest Flame" and "She Is a Diamond," but at the very least "The Art of the Possible" NEEDS to go.
I second andyf about Lisa. The woman was all OVER that role.
Wait Let Idina do it...mayeb she will run her voice and we won't have to hear her sing ever again..... I just found my silver lining
I think it'd be interesting to see her play a role of such class and grace. Maureen and Elphie were pretty polar opposites from Eva, so I'd love to see her give it a shot.
One concern is that her belting style wouldn't fit right with ALW's, at times, incredibly classical score, and that she would sound too young and too rock. Plus, London audiences are a hell of a lot more demmanding, and less forgiving than American ones.
HA, London audiences are less demanding than Americans in CERTAIN ways...
but in any case, I think it would be interesting to see Idina do such a commanding role as Evita, but I'm not convinced she could quite pull it off.
But you know, anything to save us Madonna-land.

Erik J972 - When it comes to performing in the theatre Idina has nothing to learn from Madonna.

Man, some of ya'll are mean. I personally think it would be cool to see Idina in the role and it is possible that whatever vocal technique issues she had before are things that she has worked to fix. Obviously, it's possible that she hasn't but then surely someone will notice and she won't get the part which is obviously the best thing for her voice. Anyway, I'm just hoping for the best!

Idina would be better than Madonna, for one she is much younger.
ohh I second the vote for Caroline O'Connor. She's peerrrfect!
Also, just to defend Ms. LuPone, I don't recall hearing any stories of her voice getting hoarse during the run of Evita. Also, for someone who is a sucky actress and singer, how funny is it that she attended Julliard. Who woulda thought?!?!?

Idina just doesn't have the right type of voice. I would tear my ears out.
Completely agree about Alice Ripley- but how awesome would Julia Murney be in the role? Idina who?
OH MY GOD, JULIA. I'd fly to London.

I wish casting director's would come read this dang message board before making these types of decisions. Any person with ears can tell you that Idina does not have the right type of voice for Eva.
