Justice - I think Shoshana understands the number of fans who struggled and literally fought to get tickets to today's show and I doubt she'll have a problem with stepping aside to let Idina have a final bow. After all, she didn't take a bow at the curtain call last night (I know, she performed for just ten minutes last night), but she'll probably understand again today.
She'll have due time in which to render herself worthy of the ovation Idina is going to get today.
Besides, Idina's been belting out this character for three years, she deserves the acknowledgement.

nah, shosh is really good about not being so ego-like or whatever.
She'll let Idina take her bow. Trust me.

I've never seen a thread with so many clairvoyant posters.

And how about a few of you backing away from the keyboard and try breathing slowly into a paper bag.

Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

Being professionals, I'd imagine that both women know the right thing to do, without rancor or ego involvement. To think otherwise is a disservice to them both.

This is the kind of thing of which theatre legend and lore is made.

Best to them both.

that really stinks for everyone that got her last performance tickets, and I know that she does have some really dedicated fans that are going tonight and tomorrow. I hope she gets well and that she isn't seriously injured.

While I am not a HUGE Idina fan (I like her, but I didnt even think about seeing her last show or anything), I still feel bad for her, she won't be able to do her last show, and the show that ended up being her last show resulted in a big injury.

i was at the matinee yesterday. it was such a hard situation to watch, not knowing if idina was going to be okay or not. the whole audience was relieved when joey stepped out at the end of the curtain call.

shoshana did an amazing job stepping in in such a difficult time, and i'm sure she'll be excellent today.

i wish i could be there this afternoon for the show. i would love to be there to be able to show idina our appreciation. she's amazing!

It's just a sad situation....I mean, I know how upset I get at the end of a regional run that I've done....I can't imagine the emotions she must be feeling right now.

Not to mention the fact that she will probably be suing the pants of the producers of this show and the fact that she performed AGAIN after being injured would seriously weaken her case.

I have been reading threads about people refnding their tickets. First ofall Wicked is an amazing show and so is Shoshana. and if you paid $300 a ticket you will only get like 100 dollars back. See the show. It's great.

This whole story just breaks my heart. Remember the purpose of this thread??

I can't even imagine how horrible both of these women are feeling.

Don't know Shoshana personally, but from everything I've heard from friends of hers and things she's said she seems incredibly humble and sweet, I'm sure she feels awful knowing that people in the audience may not like her too much because they came expecting Idina. I'm sure she also feels horrible about what happened to Idina and that she (Idina) can't perform her last show. How horrible to be feeling all that and have to go give it your all in a performance.

And from her concert and everything we know of Idina, she seems like someone who is probably really beating herself up about this and feeling really guilty about all the fans that are there to support her.

How horrible to not get to say goodbye to the show that she put so much of her heart into and that earned her a Tony.

It's just so sad.

Best wishes to Idina for a most speedy recovery and perhaps a chance for a proper goodbye in the near future (?).

Also best wishes to Shoshana for a great run as the new green girl.

Keepin' Idina in my thoughts and prayers...I just wish I could give her a hug, y'know? Remember the purpose of this thread??

If I show you the darkness I hold inside, will you bring me to light?

i don't know if anyone has posted this on another thread, but due to the multitude of them, it's difficult to tell.

on the broadway.com article, it has been updated to say that she has cracked a lower rib.

Onstage Injury Forces Early Exit for Wicked Star Idina Menzel
by Cara Joy David

Wicked Tony Award winner Idina Menzel fell and hit her side at the January 8 matinee of the hit musical, during the iconic scene in which the Wicked Witch of the West melts. The audience was filled with fans excited to see one of the popular favorite's final performances, as Menzel was scheduled to leave Wicked on January 9 to start work on the film version of Rent. She will now not perform on January 9, but will be on hand to appear at a curtain call celebration honoring her.

"There was not a floor [beneath the stage] where she expected there to be one," a production spokesperson explained to Broadway.com. "The elevator that lowers her had already partially descended so she fell and hit her side." Menzel went to an area hospital where she was examined by doctors who determined she had a cracked lower rib.

After Menzel's fall, an announcement about the situation was made to the audience, the performance was stopped for a short time before standby Shoshanna Bean (who is slated to assume the role of Elphaba on January 11) took over for the final minutes of the show. Leading man Joey McIntyre further explained the situation to the audience during the curtain call.

Bean played Elphaba during the January 8 evening performance and will go on January 9.

We just got back from the theater... There were hundreds of people waiting on the lottery line, and everyone was still in great spirits despite the news concerning Idina. Gershwin staff, depending on the person that you spoke with, were all giving different answers regarding the incident, and whether or not Idina would be there for the final curtain. Box office was giving cash refunds regardless of point of the purchase.

No sign was up as of 1pm regarding Idina even being out, but apparantely an announcement was made outside the theater that she would be out. We got a refund. Kind of depressing, but nothing you can do. Have tix for 2/8 to see Shosh, so that was not a concern.

Testing1232, you will be missing a GREAT and UNIQUE night of theatre tonight. Why get a refund? Idina will still be there. Tonight's performance will never again happen on Broadway. It's as rare as what happened at yesterday's matinee.

as I said before kim, deep breaths
yes it is sad she has to miss her final performance, but she'll be just fine in the end
and i know im just being bitchy by saying this, but would you rather have a little child fracture their rib or a woman who can pay for it with less than a week's pay?
