I loved the idea of Kate Winslet.
Remember in the scene when they were throwing around names after the workshop?
Also, I really think Ivy would have nailed it.

Yep, I remember that scene. And then they had Derek say "Sutton Foster" just so that Christian Borle could make a face.

I would be totally pissed when I came to see Rebecca and some chorus girl is playing the part. I'd be getting a refund and running to TKTS.

Kristin Chenoweth? Didn't Derek discover her?
Some people paint, some people sew, I meddle.

The while concept of Derek discovering her is just hogwash. That means he was responsible for her casting in Animal Crackers at Papermill in 1993.

Yes, because Smash is always rooted firmly in actual theatrical reality.

I'd go with Elaine Stritch or Carol Channing.

It would definitely have to be an unknown! Though I do like the idea of Lea MIchelle or kristin chenoweth

Why would either Lea Michele or Kristen Chenoweth be right for Marilyn Monroe? And why would should it rather be a complete unknown? (Michelle Williams was superb as Marilyn).
