Technically, it only played for 5 performances, thus being ruled ineligible from the tonys that year. Plus, where some shows ("Rock Horror") have had success out of it's original Broadway run, Carrie has only had several small scale youth theatre productions. Thus why I ask: would Carrie be a new musical?
Just due to the fact that it's infamous just from it's preview period and five performance run, I assume they'd consider it a revival.
In terms of Tony Awards? No, it would be a revival. But don't hold your breath...

The point is moot. This one drives me crazy. Moot....not mute.....
Is Cheno too old to play Carrie?

Irregardless, it's mute. And moot, supposeably.
If I suggested Anika Noni Rose to play Carrie, would it make this thread racist?

No, it would only be racist if you suggested her for Chris and suggested a white actress for Carrie, since then you would be making the African American actress be the villain who gets killed by the white girl.
Am I missing something? Why does this racist thing come up all over the place now? it's getting kind of annoying.
On topic, wouldn't it be considered a revival if it had an official opening night? Do previews count?

Well Carrie did have an opening night, so still a revival if it EVER comes to be (which I would never be willing to put money on).
But that does bring up the question of what would a revival of a show that closed during previews be ruled, if somebody was ever foolish enough to attempt such an undertaking?
I suppose if more than the prescribed amount of material were new, they could sneak their way into the Best Score / Book categories. But I think we all know that's a hilarious thought, considering how terrible the original score and book were.

For all intensive purposes, it's supposably a mute point.

Finally, a little clarity. I almost got to the point where I could care less, and then jpbran straightened things out.
