re: 'Imagine This' No More

hi all, for some reason i've never got around to posting here before, but i was fortunate enough to go see 'imagine this' last night and i kinda felt that i should speak up for it.

granted, it wasn't the greatest or most mind-blowingly out-there entertaining night, but all in all i thought it was a pretty darn good production that i think got a bit of a harsh treatment.

everyone involved were clearly giving it everything they had on monday, to the point that the energy on that stage was actually inspiring. vocally i thought the show was pretty nice and the ensemble produced a really rich sound. the set/design though was in a league of it's own! totally stunning; the rain/snow effect through the windows at the back was a cool touch. i know the critics kinda bombed it, but most of the audience seemed to enjoy the show.

i thought it was really touching to see that despite the show being so close to closing, the cast still gave it their all and it was clear they had a strong devotion to the show.

so congrats to everyone involved! i definately think this show deserved a bit more time to grow and had it opened at a time when people were a bit more willing to spend money i think it might have fared a better

Hi Steve and welcome.

We've all got various perspectives on Imagine This here, but we do seem to be in agreement that the book let the piece down. It's good to hear the cast are still giving it their all, as a few of us are going to the last night.

So watch this space for further reports on how that goes.

re: 'Imagine This' No More

I saw this on Monday night with the £10 ticket offer from Lastminute. Was 3 rows back. I didn't really enjoy the show that much, the strongest scenes were definitely the actual Warsaw scenes rather than Masada. Glad I got to see it though and was worth the £10 I spent although im glad i didnt pay top price.

Last Friday the cast couldn't have been better- they gave me quiet a few spine tingling moments with some of that choral work! Superb!

re: 'Imagine This' No More

I completely agree that he cast were phenomenal, as were the music, design and choreography. But whoever thought the original premise for the plot was a good idea is an absolute cretin. Naturally, the book and lyrics have to drive the plot, but because the plot sucks, the rest of the show suffers. Watching the cast, I was absolutely in awe of their abilities, but listening to the words that came out of their mouths made me want to kick their faces in. All that effort and hard work would have much better spent somewhere other than on this limp dick of a show.

re: 'Imagine This' No More

It couldn't play a more perfect venue!
Now lets hope the audiences go on an 8 performance a week schedule.
So pleased I'l get another chance to see this.
Well the girl hose manager we questioned last week obviously thinks that the incidental music to 'War Horse' makes it a new British musical!!! Bless.

re: 'Imagine This' No More

Well i got to say there were a few things missing that were better off gone for instance the meeting which was on the concept album but had been cut from the show ! the reprise of to touch a cloud in which evreyone but rebbeca and and adam died was so sad and emotional ! that did not help when they then went into a reprise of imagine this ! did not like the guy who played izzy/pompey and i also thought the massada scenes were very week but i could have been better to explain what fully happened to there mother ! peter was fantastic ad daniel and played the role well and made a good impression on me ! but all in all a good show ! there were some bits when it was not so true but hey ho ! and the hitler jokes ! haha quite funny

Whee, that was an incredible evening. Thanks to everybody who made it out tonight for not one but THREE great shows!

And Mama, you're growing senile in your old age - there was NO mention of Fiddler on the Roof in association with Tevye the Milkman.

Had a cracking time. Thanks a bazillion to Exy for organising it, lovely to meet you all, and perhaps next time we all meet up, you should invite either me *or* exedore, if you have any hopes of getting a word in edgeways and/or having a meaningful conversation about something totally non-nerdy. Hope y'all got home safe, full response coming after I've had sleep. ^_^

Matt, where were you sat? When I saw last week I was more central, and you see the mother being taken away by the Nazi's, but this time I didn't see it as people blocked the way.

Yeah sorry I took a detour home and ended up getting back later, so I just fell asleep. I had a great night though, 3 shows!! And it was lovely to meet you all =P

Yes - thanks for making this possible Exey. It was interesting to meet you all and put faces to the pseudonyms and avatars.

Imagine This hadn't changed since I saw it three weeks earlier, and didn't change my opinion although the Lego camp uploaded on another Imagine This thread is certainly challenging. The cast got a rapturous reception from the audience and were clearly very moved by this. The stalls were full but the Dress Circle was virtually empty. At the end there were some speeches from Peter Polycarpou thanking his fellow cast members, the orchestra and the production team who all seemed to be in attendance. It was specifically mentioned that the authors were not in attendance. I personally can't believe that they were trying to exploit the holocaust for commercial gain and think Gone With The Wind was a far more cynical and exploitative piece of theatre. But the time for debate is over now - for better or worse the show has closed.

Weez - I assume you caught your train OK - time seemed to be getting tight by the time we got to Kings Cross.

re: 'Imagine This' No More

Thats so sad they couldnt manage a bigger crowd for the last night.

re: 'Imagine This' No More

It felt big - they did get a really good send-off and it was obvious they appreciated that. I took a couple of photies but won't get time to upload until later in the week.

re: 'Imagine This' No More

My train was actually waiting for me at Kings Cross and I caught it with, like, 20 seconds to spare. I got SKILLZ yo! :3

My suggestion for the show: tighten up the first act, make us care about the characters, send it out on tour, go from there.

(My suggestion for the second show: bellow in English so the fascinated bystanders can work out what you're so upset about.)

((My suggestion for the third show: don't be David Blaine, you're fabulous as you are.))

We must do this again some time. :3
