Everybody relax.  People like undercoverusher are what's wrong wit this great country (talking about how Hillary is "pure evil" and that everyone in the country knows it, when most of them voted for her... lol).  They've drunk the Kool-Aid (and it wouldn't be tragic if they followed the same life trajectory as some of the people in Jonestown... hopefully the rest of us will be still be around this time, though, after the rest are long gone).  But as long as we're apparently allowed to discuss anything we want on this board with little moderation, we can rest assured that nutsjobs like him are in the minority.

Everyone on this thread needs to back up two steps and take a deep breath.  Talk of "boycotting" Hamilton - (by the crazies on the right) - and boycotting Nederlander houses (by crazies on the left) is absurd.  

I am by no means young - I can tell you from experience this country has endured some Presidents that many would consider Coarse and Unrefined.  In both parties.  LBJ and Ronald Reagan are examples - one from each party / of Presidents who drove members of their own party - and the other party - crazy.

We have mechanisms to modulate and correct excesses in either direction - and I can assure you that Trump will neither be as great as his supporters claim - nor his evil as his detractors claim.  I know this is true because it is always true. For every President and leader.

in the meantime, we are one country - sorely divided.  I suggest we each aspire to lead our lives while keeping a sharp eye on our government and our leaders.  Scouring out - and shaming - those who supported candidates with whom we disagreed is worse than a "zero sum game."  As a country we can easily regress, and as an industry Broadway can truly suffer.

supprt your co workers, applaud their endeavors, go see a show - or three - and be better for the experience.

And in this week especially try to see the things in life you have to be thankful for, and express that gratitude in some way.

I didn't start this thread as a means to say "hey boycott Nederlander". I brought it up because I just found it disappointing that someone I would have thought would be on a more liberal side was actually leaning conservative this time. That is why I started the thread with "Ironic..."

I am guessing this will play out that creative will still gladly accept the Nederlanders' money as producers and use their houses.  And audiences will still see the shows produced by the Nederlanders in Nederladner houses.

 

So we are all, at some level, hypocritical.

It's been 3.5 years, and this is becoming news again (with powerful declarations from Karen Olivo and Eden Espinosa) -- maybe it's time to revive this thread?

Also, full disclosure, reading all these comments from Nov. 2016 was a trip and a half -- people ragging on folks who want to boycott/blast/cancel the Nederlanders. Now that Trump has utterly broken this country, do these folks still feel it unfair to blast the Nederlanders and everyone else who supported Trump in any way, especially financially to such a degree, now?

If people can pathetically revive a Lea Michelle thread from a DECADE ago, then I say let's revive the ones that actually matter, like this one.

Seeing comments about his quick impeachment are tough to swallow, and living through these past 4 years with him effectively ruining our country was even more difficult. 

While the Nederlander Organization has a history of housing shows filled with performers of color such as On Your Feet, The Lion King, and Hamilton (not to mention countless women and members of the LGBTQIA community), their organization’s leadership is contributing to candidates that actively marginalize them and seek to limit their rights. They used profits made off the work and talent of these people to fund a candidate that promised to make their lives harder if elected.

And he certainly fulfilled his promise to do just that. I am curious to see what they donate to this year, and if they made a generous donations to Black Lives Matter yet.

Undercoverusher,  I think you really need to do some research on Donald Trump and the Trump organizations.  They have several lawsuits and complaints against them on short paying and outright denying to pay for services rendered.  He has bankruptcies that shafted people as well.  That was a legal way to not pay someone.   I believe you said there was one person that accused him and that is not correct.

It's not ironic in the slightest. According to an article in the New York Times, Hamilton was an "unabashed elitist who liked big banks, mistrusted the masses and at one point called for a monarchal presidency and a Senate that served for life." Let's not forget this is the man who gave us the electoral college, and as a result, Trump.
