I see your point. I love SJBand hope she wins the Tony but I have noticed Tony voters in recent years tend to vote for Best Leading Actress in a musical from the winner of Best Musical or Revival or from a musical that's doing well in the box office. Katrina Lenk, Bette Midler, Cynthia Erivo, and Kelli O'Hara all won this Tony the past 4 years and their musical won the Musical or Revival category as well.
Jessie Mueller won this Tony even though Beautiful didn't win Best Musical but the showwas a hit and easily recouped its investment."
Very true! Interesting though to point out from 2000-2010 it only happened 3 times - Ebersole for 42ND STREET, Foster for MILLIE and Winokur for HAIRSPRAY.
