Is Angela Lansbury returning to Broadway??

a revival of Arsenic and Old Lace with Elaine Stritch.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

Is Angela Lansbury returning to Broadway??

I think the only "older woman" in You Can't Take It With You is The Grand Duchess Olga Katrina.

She was one of the Grand Duchesses of Russia before the Revolution, another being her sister, the Grand Duchess Natasha. Since then she has been forced to flee to America where she has found work as a waitress in Childs Restaurant. The rest of her family has had a similar fate, such as her Uncle Sergei, the Grand Duke, who is now an elevator man. She loves to cook as a hobby.

But I think it's a pretty small role.

Is Angela Lansbury returning to Broadway??

She really owes Broadway a one-woman show boasting about her career. If Stritch and Bea Arthur and Redgrave and Billy Crystal and numerous others could do it, so should she.

But of course Lansbury is too nice to dish the gossip on performers she worked with, so it would just be a "And then I was in this...and then I sang this..."
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

givesmevoice, Lansbury did a reading of ARSENIC AND OLD LACE during her run in BLITHE SPIRIT a few years ago.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

BRING IN DA NOISE, BRING IN DA FUNK!
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I know Brian Bedford is doing Importance/Earnest this season, but Lady Bracknell would be a great fit for Angela, IMO. And,on a wilder note, how about Ms. Venable in Suddenly Last Summer? Neither part is all that physically demanding and she would have a lot of fun with the line readings. Thoughts?

I agree with you about Lady Bracknell, but I think Mrs. Venable might be a tough one.

How about the Dowager Empress in "Anya," originally played by Lillian Gish. It's not too demanding, and she would only have one talk song, "Little Hands." The only problem is, I don't think anyone will be reviving "Anya."

What about just the Dowager Empress in Anastasia? The original drama is far superior to the film or the musical. I saw a production this summer that was just astounding, and in fact has inspired me to want to direct it someday. I'd love to see this show go up again, though I couldn't imagine it doing too well, unfortunately...

Berthe in "Pippin" would be great.

Jordan i wish that is true! I would be overwhelmed with happiness. And not to start any rumors but for sake of argument would she be carlotta or hattie? I dont see her as stella.
