Last night I saw a regional production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and for "Great Big Stuff" they changed the line "I can finally afford to see a Broadway show" to "I can finally afford to see Hamilton!", and Freddy did the Hamilton pose from the logo. I was the only one who laughed.

Commendations to the remainder of the audience.

Thank GOD I'm not there tonight. When did it become acceptable to ruin final performances for those around you in a theater? Hell, it doesn't even have to be a final performance. When did screaming at the top of your lungs and non stop "WHOOO!" become ok to do?

@Jordan Catalano
Maybe they took Rory's "everybody" too literally?
But I agree. Being taken out of the theatrical experience always frustrates me unless the entire show is built around no fourth wall.

Agree with Jordan. Feel so sorry for the poor schmucks who spent thousands of dollars months ago to buy their tickets and are now having the experience ruined by the disturbing Hamilton fanatics around them. They are truly the worst.

In most other circumstances I would agree with you guys but I think it's a bit of a special night, no? Anyway, sorry I brought it up, didn't mean to start negativity in the thread!

And that means all previous theatre etiquette and rules just get thrown out the window? What about those patrons who are unaware of the circumstances and simply want to enjoy the performance?

Since when do they matter? It's all about ego and self-indulgence running wild --- and everyone else be damned.

I would hope that the only exceptional things happening tonight were extended cheering and applause when the departing cast members came out and then the crowd singing the da-das, which Rory seemed to enjoy. If there's people doing other obnoxious things during the show (woo-ing at other times, singing to anything other than this particular moment) then obviously that's overstepping theatre etiquette. But that's just my opinion.
To change the subject: I'm putting $5 on Lin cutting his hair at the after party tonight.

This seems reasonable and to be expected given the occasion.

Is anyone able to see the curtain call on Facebook live? I went to the link which was to the normal Hamilton site but don't see where it will appear unless it doesn't show up on mobile site

I watched it. No speeches or anything. No big whoop.

Not even a little whoop.

A rather anticlimactic curtain call, but I'm grateful to have gotten a glimpse into it nonetheless! ![]()

Actually, no whoop at all, which surprised me a little. Nobody gave any speeches, and the whole thing was rather unremarkable. Oh well.

The West Wing theme was a nice touch

Aww, I thought The West Wing theme was a nice touch. (Yes, yes, for some of you: OMG, how dare they play a few notes that are different from the usual curtain call music that happens ever other show, how inappropriate to ruin it for everyone who just so happens to be seeing Hamilton for the first time tonight.)
for the record, I've always found the da - da - da part to be weirdly directed. I remember the first time I saw Hamilton at The Public wondering if that "everybody" meant we the audience are or are not supposed to do the da - da - das with the King.

Singing along when a character actually invites you to sing along is hardly a grotesque violation of theater etiquette. Not every Broadway show has to be treated like church.

I agree. Singing along at a show, in general, is awful, but there are exceptions. (Jukebox musicals are not.)
