Besides watching their attendance and gross jump every week....this show has recently had some amazing word of mouth, and after the Tonys, more than a few people I know have mentioned adding this to their must see list.

I have to admit, my parents, who had already developed an interest in seeing Billy Elliot, but knew nothing of the rest of the Broadway season, determined from the Tony broadcast that they would most interested in seeing Hair and Next to Normal.
It's been on my list for quite some time now, but now I really, really want to see it. I have busy summer starting next week, so hopefully I can squeeze it in.

ACL, there are still some tickets left for tomorrow and tomorrow night.
I think N2N reached people with that fierce number ..... from another (non-theater, TV section of DVD TALK) forum I frequent:
"And I'm off to buy Next to Normal, cause that performance rocked."
..and:
"Yeah, Next to Normal was amazing. I haven't seen the show but from the Tony performances, I'd say they got robbed."
Wow...and from the number they performed I wondered if it would reach the folks that knew nothing of it. I guess it did.
Yippee for N2N.
I haven't seen the show and have only listened to a few songs from the cast recording (I had never heard the songs they performed at the telecast before) and thought that they gave a terrific performance. It was a great number that showcased Ripley's fantastic acting and out of the world vocals, the excellent Tony-winning score, and the electricity that seems to drive the show. Good for them.
I do think that the performance that the cast of Next To Normal gave at the Tonys last night was one of the best I have seen in a long time in terms of getting people interested in seeing the show who might not have otherwise been in the first place.
I feel that the two songs that they did were songs that got people interested in what was going on and left them asking for more which is why there were people talking about going now that they saw it on the Tonys. Yes, it did feature two of the nominated cast members and did show off the score. But, it gave you a little snippet from the middle of what I think is a great story and had you wanted to go and figure out the rest and figure out what the full story is. I think that that is what makes a good Tony telecast performance. Doing a song that would make people want to see the show rather then just showcasing people who are nominated in a given show.
My mom, who knew nothing about the show, said the Tony performance got her interested in the show.
Two co-workers, who don't know much about theater at all, said that they want to see NEXT TO NORMAL after that Tony performance. One woman and her husband already bought a pair of tickets for July.
Maybe the show will last longer than we think...
I attended the Tony's last night, and my dad called me afterwards from Oregon and said, I want to fly out and see Next to Normal! Yah, the performance and the Score/Actress wins made a big impression.
This made me very very very happy! I hope N2N does well! It deserves it! One of my favorite showss
This is SOOOO exciting to hear!!!!
I always thought that this would make it through the summer...but now I see a life throught the Holidays!!! Nice to know that Aaron has a job to come back to!!!!!
Very happy for them!

Same here...I watched with my mother last night and she really wants to see N2N. I was very happy b/c she is not really into theater and it was the first time she has ever wanted to see something.
And Next to Normal is currently the 7th best selling album on iTunes.
Edit: And it's number 4 on Amazon.
I'm sure the fact that it won best SCORE helps in record sales, which is exciting. I think it's between N2N and HAIR for this year's Grammy. Frankly, I'd be happy with either winning. Both are fantastic recordings.
I don't think it's clear that N2N is the only or number one show people are talking about though. BILLY is.
But there certainly seems to be positive buzz for N2N too which is very exciting.

Yeah people are talking about how awkward and bizarre that Billy PErformance was. Epilepsy and leg cramps were the focus of it.
Are you capable of talking about any show in a positive light that ISN'T N2N?
And I didn't make a comment about BILLY's performance. I was talking about their wins and the incredible exposure it got.

I've talked positively about [tos] and Everyday Rapture. And after I see Hair I'll likely talk positively about it. But I don't talk positively about shows that are bad, like shrek, roa and billy elliott.
I agree with what Zoneace meant, though. Billy Elliot had buzz going in and certainly has a lot of buzz coming out. However, their awkward performance and the loss of Best Score, coupled with Next to Normal's own performance and win for Best Actress (which was incidentally probably one of the only memorable speeches of the night, despite the debate over Ripley's mental state) has really tipped the scale in favor of N2N in terms of being talked about.
Because, honestly- people aren't going out (or, given the nature of music today, sitting at home) and buying the cast album ONLY because it snagged best score. Billy Elliot's album isn't seeing the dramatic increase N2N is, despite having won the top prize of the night. They were engaged by the material they saw.
N2N may not have won best musical, but I would say that it will be, for a while at least, reaping some of the success that the title brings.
I know that the twitching leg is part of the opening of Angry Dance. But, isn't him holding his leg for a second in the middle of it part of it as well. Sorry, it's just been a while since I have seen Billy Elliot and I am having trouble remembering.
Everyone I talked to, didn't have a clue what the spastic Billy Elliot number was all about. They were fare more interested in next to normal after their performance, coupled with the wins for Ripley and the score.
Well, either way, the next few months should be very revealing and very interesting.
Especially when September rolls around and the summer is over.
Everyone that I spoke to at work wanted to know about the "BE" performance, and where it fits in with the storyline--- It certainly did not make anyone want to go see the show.
I had a ton of people ask me about the "N2N" score today, and if it is truly that good--- my answer... "No, its BETTER!!!"
