Kelli O'Hara was alright in the role, but for Christ's sake don't let her belt never again
Gyllenhaal is perfect. It's an incredibly challenging singing part and I hope he pulls it off magnificently.
Kelli O'Hara would be absolutely lovely. There's a recording of her in the She Loves Me reading and I realized that she brings such a wonderful sweetness to her characters.
Laura Benanti has a similar quality so she's my second choice.
My third choice is Jane Krakowski. I can see her really acting the part, but I would really like to see a really strong singer play the part.
I think Barbra Cook might be lovely as the old woman.
Danieley and Errico are perfect for Jules and Yvonne
George is the definition of a "put-to-the-test" role. If Gyllenhaal can pull it off well, there won't be any stopping him.

"George is the definition of a "put-to-the-test" role."
And being with George is the definition of a "put-to-the-test" audience. I have a feeling, however, that the audience for this performance will pass that test with flying colors.

There is no one I'd enjoy Finishing My Hat with than Mr. G., but talk about taking on a big challenge. Wow.
I'm still ticked off at what I felt was so-so singing from Claybourne Elder in the recent Signature (DC) revival.
Can't wait to see how this ends up. I have a lot of trust in Tesori.

I know this doesn't mean much - but Bernadette has a concert on Long Island the 22nd of Oct, then nothing until Jan. According to her schedule now at least. Seems logistically possible
Mozart In production.
I mean...I wouldn't say no to seeing Bernadette as Dot. But it wouldn't seem right for her to do the entire show without Mandy as her George.

I saw her do the role in Chicago and she was Beautiful in it.
I wouldn't mind seeing Renee Elise Goldsberry as Dot.
I thought Tesori was leaving?
It is too bad it is not being done for an entire week but I realize that particular event is always one evening.

Think they'll add more performances like they did with Little Shop? Surely it will sell out in 2 seconds.

They also added a performance to last year's gala which was Annie Get Your Gun, so I would say probably yes.

He will be great. I was so impressed with him in Little Shop. The score is very demanding....no one can top Mandy's take but I am a big fan of Jake's and hope he can pull it off. May sound crazy, but I would love to see Anna Leigh Ashford as Dot.

She's leaving her main role but staying on in some artistic capacity of sorts per some press release I saw. Maybe I am just inferring or assuming that she'll be involved with this at some level.
Edit: This from the NYT story:
"The concert performance is being produced by Jeanine Tesori, the Tony-winning composer of “Fun Home,” who is leaving her position as artistic director of Encores! Off-Center but continuing her relationship with City Center as an artistic adviser."

I wasn't able to see Annie Get Your Gun last year, but did they offer peer-to-peer discounts or is there any chance they'd offer them this year?

I don't remember paying more than $50 for Annie Get Your Gun, I think it was a standard $30 balcony seat.

I just checked my email confirmation and the front side balcony seats were $35, the same price they are for Encores! shows.

Did it say what time tickets are going on sale? And do you think they would sell them in person at the city center box office tomorrow as well? Thanks :)
The NY Times article just says online at noon, but if you want to call CityTix and ask about buying at the box office, their number is 212-581-1212.
I looked online a little earlier and got a "No Availability" message
I called and the box office opens tomorrow at noon, also.

HA! Well that's a good reason! I read the article quickly and made sure I committed the 12 pm to memory and must have been reading the dateline and had May 24 stuck in my head. Thank you!
