Posted: 6/5/13 at 5:28pmkate missed the mark on this part it would seem. People expected greatness and she didn't reach it. On the other hand, Jane seems to be getting the enthusiasm that you would have thought kate would have got. i feel bad for her.

Posted: 6/5/13 at 5:57pmI, too, feel badly for Katie. She's a treasure. Unfortunately for her, Jane has a name that can garner more publicity, which is nothing against Jane. I imagine the critics will return to review Jane's performance and I'll be eager to hear what they think. They may opine that she does, in fact, "out shine" Katie but let's wait and see.

Posted: 6/5/13 at 8:13pmKatie can console herself with her two Tony Awards. Underwhelming as she was, I'm sure she knows this is how the business works. And I'm sure she'll be back onstage soon. Updated On: 6/5/13 at 08:13 PM

Katie left Annie to co-star in Michael J. Fox's new NBC show. She was not forced out to bring in Lynch. The MJF show has already been picked up by NBc for a full 22 ep season instead of the traditional 13 initial eps with a back 9 order after the show proves itself or not.
Katie will be just fine. This TV gig HAS to be better than her last one. Plus Lynch is only a temporary replacement herself... since she will begin filming Glee again late summer.

But Fantasia sucked in TCP. LaChazne has more talent in her finger than Fantasia has in her whole body.

^^
Spelling errors, childish expression of opinion in response to an objectively stated assertion (and a response that has nothing to do with the original anyway - "association" in the public eye generally has nothing to do with talent or whether anyone "sucks"), and an outlandish statement looking to drag a conversation in a different direction than it was intended.
If you're ever wondering why you get accused of being a troll, there's a glimpse.
As to the OP, yes Jane Lynch will be performing. As for other notable instances of a replacement, I remember that Brent Spiner had already left 1776 before their performance in the '90s, but in general it's not very common because lately it's been rare for a show to open in the beginning of a season and run long enough for an original contract to expire before the Tony performances if its nominated. Recent years most musicals at the Tonys have been spring shows, not unlike producers gaming the oscars with end-of-the-year releases for their hopefuls.

Fantasia didn't suck in TCP. She's a nut job, wih no work ethic at all...but that performance as Celie she gave was nothing short of asonishing. LaChanze was excellent, but in this role, Fantasia was in a whole other league.

Completely disagree but this is not the thread to debate this in. Anyway the fact is: Jane will probably be more fondly remembered. I didn't see kate but for people who did it seemed like she didn't rise to the occasion. Sad

Posted: 6/6/13 at 11:06amI was rooting for Finneran to get cast in this from day one and listening to the recording I can see why people were disappointed in her. Lynch's tracks have so much more personality, I hope she gets to perform "Little Girls" come Tony night.

Maybe the role of Hannigan will be treated as Deloris was in Sister Act when Raven came in. Patina and Raven seemed to be recognized for their performances. I would say though that Patina is more fondly associated which is good for her, and refreshing.
