AVENUE Q is closing on September 13. HAMLET starts performances on the 12th. The Golden isn't an option.

That was my guess as to where it would go.

The Broadhurst certainly has had its fill of British imports in the last few years, huh? Everything from LES MIZ to THE HISTORY BOYS to EQUUS and so on.

I was thinking that too (except that Les Miz was the U.S. tour production that came in for the revival. Not a British transfer). But between History Boys, Equus, and Mary Stuart, they should rename it the Britain Theatre.

The Golden was NEVER an option. Hamlet was booked into the Broadhurst two months ago.

$116.50! In London the top price for this is £34 (about $55-$60).

I'm sure Jude Law's name will sell this, but it's really not a great production at all. Not terrible or anything, just very average. If they're re-casting some of it, hopefully you'll be spared the dreadful Laertes from London!

On the plus side, I really liked the (very simple) set, and the bedroom scene with Gertrude was fantastically well-staged.

It's a very sturdy production and looks and sounds very nice indeed. Grandage's posse of usual suspects have done it again! Unfortunately, Jude Law is the only cast member with any charisma, which is a real shame considering Penelope Wilton and Kevin McNally are flippin' AWESOME at all other times. Alex Waldmann (afore-mentioned Laertes) is a bit weird too; he was a really freakin' great Sebastian in Twelfth Night, but not so hot when it comes to tragedy, apparently.

I'm glad I saw this production, I'm glad I'm seeing it again, I'm glad y'all are getting it, but it doesn't really deserve to live on in infamy. Unlike my most beloved RSC production which I'm STILL obsessed with and which has been filmed by the BBC and Illuminations Media as proof there is a god!
