I received mine a couple days ago and have given it a full listen. While I appreciated her reinterpretations, I was hoping for a little more "full throtle" belt moments. The album is very relaxed and hardly seems like a vocal workout for her at all. I was probably most pleased the with tracks I hadn't heard before: "Only Happens in the Movies", "I'll try" because I had no existing interpretation in my head. "Minnie's Yoo-hoo" was fun and there could've been more of that energy on the disc. Arrangements are pretty, but a little heavy on folk-fiddle and guitar. This is the Appalachian Disney album. :)
All in all, it is a well sung, very pleasant collection with a couple outstanding tracks. I'm sure I'll come to appreciate it more with repeat listenings.
Slight thread jack - If you're a Barbara Cook fan, her Disney album is a must have. If it is out of print as someone mentioned, find a way to get it or listen to it, it's absoutely beautiful.

I have to say that the best version of Disneyland will forever be the Jodi Benson version.... I love love love this song.
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
Thanks, Craig. I did have an idea going into the CD that she wouldn't be belting to high heavens, but I hoped for at least one track. That live performance you posted has her singing out WAY more than she does on the disc. Now I don't think that these artists should pander to their fan-base, but we should at least get a little of what we expect from our stars. Kerry is a belter and I'm sure her fanbase has come to expect a certain level of beltiness in her recordings. so, it is understandable if some of her fans might be disappointed (from that standpoint) in this Cd. It's still a nice album and I enjoy it.
BK - love your plug too. I started buying the UNSUNG and LOST in BOSTON series back in the 90s. Jodi Benson rules on "Disneyland"!
I was kind of taken aback by the arrangements, but they grew on me when I kept listening. They are nice and cozy(as someone mentioned before) and it is a nice change of pace from big belty songs that you might normally hear from a Broadway Performer.

Reviews and the like
I listened to "Call Me A Princess" and wasn't thrilled at all. It was boring and very unlistenable. I tried listening to Disneyland (which I was very familiar with) and couldn't get through it. I might try and get through the other tracks later, but I don't have much hope. With any luck, it will improve with futher listening.
PLEASE! Do not post anything negative or dramatic! DidYouReallyHearMe has LOST the ability to ignore such posts and he will comment! Please, help him.
With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-
"Not Barker, Todd is the only person I've ever known who could imitate Katherine Hepburn...in print." -nmartin-
Disney dork here too! I work for a Disney Store that's closing next month *tear*. Just today I was explaining the history of Oswald the Rabbit to a customer and she asked me if we're schooled in the trivia so we can share it with our guests. I told her no and that I just happened to know. I also spent my birthday in Disneyland this year (for free).
This album has some great tracks. Baby Mine is always a joy and I love I'll Try. If I'm not mistaken Jonatha Brooke performed I'll Try at Ground Zero for the one year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. For me, the song has been forever associated with that moment in time. It's about needing to be grown up and having to face the harsh realities of the world and being "grown up". The title of the album comes from this song. "I'm too tired to listen; I'm to old to believe all these childish stories. There is no thing as faith and trust and pixie dust." Then later in the song she comes to terms with the fact that she can believe in the stories but be an adult at the same time. To not hold back and to just "fly". "I can finally see it. Now I have to believe all those precious stories. All the world is made of faith and trust and pixie dust."

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
