I think this is the first cast recording I can thing of that is leaps and bounds better than seeing it love. It sounds marvelous and Nunn's butcher job is barely present on disc.

It's a double disc. Twice as much music, twice the price.

OK, I really like the recording (after a quick listen), but I've got a little complaint to the guys at PS Classics/Nonesuch.

Most of the recent CDs that I've got from them have had issues with the booklets. My ALNM CD had a 1/2 inch tear on the front cover on the top middle of the booklet with some folding. I would have been VERY disappointed in this if I actually bought the CD at the theater in hopes of having it signed at the signing today.

But this isn't the only time I've had issues with their booklets. My Xanadu booklet has a small tear on the back cover on the staple side (probably 1/4 of an inch long). Finian's Rainbow has a large wrinkle in the booklet that I didn't notice when I was buying it in the store. Road show has a dog ear on the front cover of the booklet. I hate those unexpected bad surprises since most of their releases come in slip covers so I can't tell there is something wrong with the booklet until after I buy and open the CDs.

I do appreciate that PS Classics/Nonesuch puts out these nice thick booklets with lyrics, pictures, etc. But I do wish that quality control was a little better on these.

Since most of these posts seem to be about waiting and pricing and tears in booklets in past CD purchases, I'd like to join the small group who have listened to the CD and comment that the recording is lovely. I miss a fuller orchestra in places but am not terribly put off by the smaller ensemble. The vocal performances are all quite wonderful and it's marvelous to have so much dialog and the complete score represented. I still prefer some of the performances on the OBC but overall, I am delighted with this recording. I highly recommend it to anybody who is on the fence.

I was on the fence about this, and I listened to the selections on itunes, and the sound of Ramona Mallory's shrill shrieking made me less likely to get this recording than I had been. It brought the experience all back to me, sitting there wondering what on Earth Fredrik was doing married to that hideous hateful little bitch, and then turning down the delicious Desiree for reasons that pass understanding.

You must not understand that a majority of members on this board are students. And do you realize that we love theater to death but can't always spend as much money as you? We would LOVE to be able to buy a full price ticket and support the Broadway community but we can't. So leave us alone and stop bickering about students.

Choitoy, I am in complete agreement with you. But its all the recording companies that lack quality control. My friends and family think I'm crazy, but I even examine the cd case first for cracks before I purchase. Have you experienced this? On more than one occassion I have had the little white security device (sometimes its a sticker)attached not to the back of the cd insert (what the cd sits on) but actually attached to the paper. And of course if you take it off, it rips the paper. I immediately take it right back to the store. Anyway thats my OCD moment of the day.

Jordan, the first 15 people who ordered from PSClassics and the first 15 people who ordered from Nonesuch had the opportunity to tack on an extra $10 for a ALNM window card signed by Catherine, Angela and Alexander.

My nonesuch preorder shipped today! Can't wait to get it in the mail.

WithoutATrace, I think it was the first 50 people to order from each site.

And ArtMan, I am glad that someone else is as anal-retentive/OCD about their CDs/souvenirs as my sister and I are. Both she and I loudly gasped when I took out the booklet to look at. I guess I'll have to try my luck in buying another copy, and give my current copy to one of my co-workers who is into theater (but not enough to buy a cast recording). And about the security sticker, sometimes it's not that little rectangle sticker with the piece of metal that I come across, it's a big square sticker that has wires embedded in it that is impossible to get off of plastic, and completely ruins the insert tray artwork if it's there. This happened once with a Jason Mraz CD my sister bought at Target once, it obscured the artwork. But this was only on the Target CDs, we bought the CD elsewhere, and it had no security sticker.

As much as I didn't love this production, I really like the way the Liebeslieder Singers begin the overture, and actually prefer it to the OBC. From what I've listened to so far, I think Aaron Lazar, Angela Lansbury and Erin Davie sound the best. I actually like Erin Davie more than I remember liking her in the show.

This revival recording is a more complete recording of the score than the OBC, but I don't think the performers are nearly as good as those on the OBC.

I think the orchestrations (such as they are) sound lovely and it's nice to have virtually the whole score.

But am I the only one who thinks that the cast performances are a little "big" for the recording? CZJ has some real Merman notes going and Dame Angela's performance sounds a bit too mannered and broad. My guess it's a matter of not modulating correctly for the recording.

It certainly is a recording I will listen to many times in the future, even though.

I thought Catherine Zeta-Jones oversang and overacted everything when I saw the show, and it definitely was even more over the top (in my opinion) on the recording. I think almost everyone was directed to be a Large Ham, possibly with the exception of Aaron Lazar and Erin Davie, who could've gotten away with more over the top performances.

I will admit that she was not as bad as I had anticipated. She was good, and I had been expecting much worse.

I thought Jayne Paterson (whom I mostly really enjoyed) over-sang it a lot more than Zeta-Jones did when I saw her as Desiree.
