Oh boy do I feel lucky. At NYU tonight they did the dress rehearsal of Jerry Springer: The Opera and invited students for free!!!
I can honestly say it is the trashiest thing I have ever seen but I loved every minute of it!! Harvey Keitel is great as the title character and I loved everyone in the cast! they all had fantastic voices! Overall, I can see this being a hit at carnegie hall, but not without offending many. The first act is a dead on satire of the show, and very entertaining. I loved every minute of it. The second act, while still funny is not quite the same as it takes place in hell with Jerry having to do a show for the devil. That is a funny circumstance, but this is done in such an obscene way that it may cause some to walk out. I wasn't offended, but didn't think the jokes worked as well here. Despite this, I still really enjoyed the show and the fantastic cast. I got chills when they all would sing together! This should be a fun time at carnegie hall(a hilarious choice of venue for such a crass show!) Enjoy everyone!
I've seen the featurette on here, looks really solid! My friend has tickets for tomorrow (Wednesday) night's performance!

I was writing and thinking two different things, ned.
What I meant was aside from the creative front where running time is 'key' when structuring a show, as a theatregoer myself, having to book around a certain timeframe (to head down and then home, etc.) running time interests me a lot of the time - that way, I know when and what to book around.

...and it'll be all worked out on my statement, if I use my VISA or whatever? 'cause that'd be awesome. (sorry if this is getting annoying, haha, I'm young yet) lol

I saw it last night too. I thought HK was brilliant and Max von Essen & Patricia Phillips were highlights for me. I loved it, but I though some of the "ah ah ah" obligatos could be eliminated. Some of them were damn hard and not everyone could sing them, especially with less than 2 weeks of rehearsal. The characters were very well defined. That stage had amazing talent on it! I knew very little going in, but had a great time.
