I'd give them .30 cents and a pack of gum.

I was so torn between seeing Perfect Crime or accepting Scott Rudin's offer to smash a computer on my hand. Ultimately I decided Scott's tantrum would be more enjoyable!

You know $35 is a very affordable price, so you could go on a Saturday when you could catch both a matinee AND an evening performance just so you could see how much Catherine Russell's performance varies at each show.

And if you had homeowners insurance, you could make a claim for a new computer!

And true theater lovers will be needing computers very soon when an upcoming performance is live-stream.

I love the fact that they have a ringer at the TKTS booth to rope in the rubes from out of town.

And those same rubes believe that they're seeing a "Broadway" show because the theater is ON Broadway...sortta.

Is TKTS open?

Yep. It's going to share the theater with the upcoming WAITRESS revival.  Perfect Crime will play Sun, Mon, Tue evenings and Thur matinees with special midnight performances on certain Fridays and Saturdays.

When the show moves to the St James there won't be any problems in keeping the audience socially distant. All 6 people should be able to spread out nicely.

Was Waitress that good?  Ad visuals reminded me of Linda Lavin's "Mel's Diner," which I disliked.

It'll be grand with Catherine Russell playing a supporting role in whatever outfit she was wearing that day to do her jousework.

And just why doesn't Catherine Russell have a Kennedy Center Honor by now?

Good question. She's given something like 30,000 performances in that role. Six of them were good.

Rubes?

That is a rather negative word isn't it?

With what NY theater has been enduring, and will have endured for almost two years, and with all the lamenting people have been doing on here about lost jobs, I don't think this is the time for elitist attitudes.

And considering the high percentage of ticket sales are out-of-towners, I don't think you can be looking a gift horse in the mouth.

But even beyond that, if some "yokel" (that's a synonym for "rube," by the way) wants to see a show when they're in "the big city," looking down one's nose at them isn't very nice.  And I know if I"m a performer on that stage I am glad they are there.  Right alongside the "true" theater crowd and Upper East Siders.  Who should also be glad they're there too.

Theater is art.  And if someone has a love for art, I couldn't care less what zip code they come from.  And the irony is that many of those who are performing for you come from places that those in "the city" would consider "backward" too.

If one is going to be truly authentic, and truly one of acceptance, love and tolerance you have to do more than just talk the talk. Pointing the fingers at other people who you are outraged by, yet not looking to yourself and your own shortcomings is not authentic.   And when we become that ourselves, we are no different that the people we are supposedly outraged by.  What do they say about pointing your finger at others only leaves three pointing back at you?

I know it's human nature to want to find someone who is beneath you, but after the last decade, and especially after the last year and a half, it's time to be kinder and truly accepting of those who are different from you.  My friend and I were talking about the post-Covid times and how we truly hoped it makes us a more joyous people when we come out of it. More appreciative.  That maybe we learn a lesson about what and who we should be appreciating, and take less for granted.   But sadly I fear that we'll find most didn't learn much from it and will return to what they were before now that things are returning to normal.

Sadly, the wake up call wasn't the wake up call we thought it would be.

Obviously you don't spend much time on the TKTS line, where you'll meet real rubes and yokels--like the Texan who complained to me that NYC was a nice place but it had "too many HOMO-sexuals wandering around it," When he asked me to recommend a show with "good family values" I suggested LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. I had to write it on a slip of paper and when he got to the sales window he mangled it beyond belief. Oh, how I wish I was in the theater when he discovered all those Cagelles were men!

There was also the woman who insisted Cyndi Lauper was standing outside the Palace Theater surrounded by paparazzi. I tried explaining to her that the poor lady had obviously  been in a fender bender and she was surrounded by people trying to help her until the police arrived moments later.

Then there was the mother and teenaged son from Milwaukee who were in town to visit schools for him to attend. She was convinced he was a candidate for Julliard because he could play "The Music of the Night" on his chord organ.

Yes, these are the types of people who get suckered in by shills planted on the TKTS lines to see PERFECT CRIME.
