On an unrelated note- anyone know what's up with Joey Taranto, he is listed in the Playbill as and Angel, specifically the one who is the ringleader/referee, he's on the recording, but both times I've seen the show I've seen a swing, Carrasco the first time Pendilla the second, and Pendilla is in this performance- the purple Angel. What's the deal? Is he out indefinitely?

I believe Joey fell off the runway and injured his leg. He is back June 25th
A perfect example of why this show :
1) should NOT win Best Musical
2) should NOT win Best Actor
3) should NOT win Best Choreography
Thanks for the info Jamie...also, this is an adapted performance, it is much bigger in the theatre, they're not even on a full set- kudos for the adaptation, see the show before passing judgement! Matilda's have all been adapted, and IMO, unimpressive as well! Let the backlash begin- seeing Matilda in July, tickets in hand! I'm looking forward to it, I just wish others wouldn't be so quick to judge a product based on a talk show performance!
Was wondering about Joey too....didn't realize he was the one that had played Drew in Rock of Ages! What a chance of pace....Spiderman seemed more fitting as Flash/etc.
I thought the performance was pretty good! Not amazing, as yes, it did look like Billy was holding back, but I love the angels and they gave great energy. Charlie Sutton and Paul Cannan's tricks are hysterical!

I thought it was quite good! I think it's always hard to watch a performance supposed to be experienced live, through television. It doesn't have the same effect.
To me Billy sounded the same. His voice always has that gravely sound to it. You either like it or you don't. I like it, but a whole show of it is kind of a lot. I thought the performance presented the show as it is. You'll either like it or not. I thought the performance was pretty good, but still think Matilda should sweep the awards.
if we were to base who wins the Tony award on TV performances, my vote would go to Bring It On. Kinky Boots & Matlida's TV performances didn't come out all that well.
The audience loved it and so did I.
....I'm basing it on seeing the shows... I liked Bring it On, actually. I'd probably see that one again before I saw the others.

I think the performance on The View is pretty good actually. But having seen the show, I do agree that this performance does not do the show justice at all. It is much, much, much better live in the theatre - I found Billy Porter's performance to be way funnier live, and the cast had more energy as well, it is a wonderful show.

Woah, what the heck is this? From all the pushing, and advertising, and marketing telling me how much fun this show is, THIS rehash of half a dozen other things we've already seen is the proof? What a dissapointment, what a snooze.

Luckily I don't think they really need to win many people over. They are grossing the most out of any new show.
^Not true- that distinction would actually go to Motown.
Correction: Out of all the shows nominated for Best Musical, Kinky Boots is grossing the most. Out of all the new musicals this season? Well, that award goes to Motown. Who would have thought?
This performance just reminds me that I find Jerry Mitchell's choreography in Kinky Boots lazy, boring, and cliché.
All this hype over Billy Porter...I liked the show. I really liked his performance. But, I think Rob McClure deserves the Tony this year. He was so captivating in Chaplin.
McClure was really good. But I'm still surprised so many people disliked Carvel. He was so astonishing to me.

It's not. Motown's nut is WAY higher, they have a 42 (something like that) cast. trust that KB is making the most.
