On tonight's show of So You Think You Can Dance. Although it was for charity where does this woman get off? She really doesn't sing well, she doesn't look healthy, and her movement is limited. It must be nice to Mrs. Cruise.
And on top of it, Judy Garland's son Joey Luft was in the audience looking spellbound
( or shocked)
She doesn't get off, that's why.
Didn't look healthy? I assume you mean her weight, and it was fine to me.
But since this is about her...did she convert to Scientology (or was she one before she married Cruise)?
I'm sure there are batteries in the Cruise houshold, @ least for the "Tickle Me Elmo". ( WHOLE diferent conotation there) So THAT is no excuse!
She converted when she married him.
I enjoyed her performance, even though it was canned. She moves well, had great stage presence, and even knew when to point her feet. I wouldn't be surprised if some producers tried to get her into Chicago.
At least her voice sounds more or less like I think it really sounds naturally.
Unlike the last celebrity "special" performance on of SYTYCD's sister show American Idol with Paula!
Meh.
You got to say that she performed better than she did about 10 years ago when she sang "On My Own"!!!!!!!!
Joe Luft tends to go wherever he's invited. And I bet they sent a car.
Not that it really matters but...did the son of Judy Garland and brother of Liza Minnelli turn out not to be gay?
My friend pointed out that Mr. Luft seemed to be a product of fetal alcohol syndrome. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and said that he actually just looked like a fetus.
Katie Holmes was... okay? I mean, she can't really sing or dance on any kind of professional level. However, the fact that she's supporting the foundation they started made her (very) lackluster performance okay, in my book. She wasn't actually good, but she tried her best. I almost wish she had some kind of talent, because she does have a good deal of stage presence. If only she could sing or dance... or know that she didn't have to lipsync to her own mediocre vocals while attempting to dance.
Can someone please load it up on the TUBE...I can not watch it on my comp (has no sound at the moment)...
My friend pointed out that Mr. Luft seemed to be a product of fetal alcohol syndrome.
Without specifically saying the exact condition, Lorna Luft DID state in her autobiography/Judy Garland bio "Me and My Shadows" that her little brother Joe/Joey suffers from issues brought on by her mother's pills/booze addiction. During her pregnancies with Liza and Lorna, Judy was able to stay off 'the stuff', but had a very difficult time doing so during her pregnancy with Joey.
Does anyone else think this is a desperate attempt to be seen for the Judy Garland Bio Pic, that Anne Hathaway will be starring in?

High production values and no spark. Boring.....
A hot mess. She couldn't even kick high.

Katie's about 8 inches too tall to be Judy. Even Anne Hathaway is a little on the tall side.

I think Katie should be offered a role in The First Wives Club.
Just watched that video.
CRAP! THAT STINKS!
Even the boys are lousy.
I am straying a bit from topic, but I just want to say there *has* to be someone better/more appropriate to do Judy than Anne Hathaway. There HAS to be.

If you're going to do a biopic about Garland, Hathaway is as good a choice as any. You can argue that the project is a bad idea, but I can't think of a better star. Hathaway has shown pretty good sense in choosing projects (with a few clunkers like Bride Wars), so I'm going to stay hopeful.
I'd rather have Ann Reinking doing "Against All Odds" again than this as far as wildly inappropriate performances are concerned.
P
I'll have to see it to believe it. I think she did a decent job in "Rachel Getting Married" and I applaud her for spending a portion of the summer performing on stage for free, but Judy Garland is someone that should be tackled perfectly or not be tackled at all. I don't think she has the ability to exude the grace, charisma and endearing qualities that made Judy Judy. She was such a specific person. Hathaway, like most rising young talents these days, is not. She reminds and smacks of a lot of young women. That is a great deal to do with why she has become a star.
This, of course, is to say nothing of the voice. I certainly hope whoever steps into the role lip-syncs Judy's vocals or really, really puts in the effort to get somewhere near her delivery and phrasing. If whoever lands the role sings it, I will be relieved if it's a half-decent portrayal. When Judy Garland sang she oozed wistful plaintiveness, sweet sorrow and the vested need to fight for survival, as if there was no other emotional outlet but to ex-or-cise her pain through them.
I can't think of any young star capable of doing that justice. Like Michael Jackson, Judy Garland came along once. There will never be another one who can fill her shoes. She will be *very* tough to portray, but I can understand the allure of an actress wanting to do it - it's a chance to win an Oscar. Has anyone noticed how many Oscars go to actors portraying actual persons as opposed to fictional characters?
Since I may be accused of a fan bias, for the record I only own one Judy album, "Live at Carnegie Hall."
