Kelli O'Hara Departs King and I on April 17th - Marin Mazzie to step in! — Page 5

Sanders was quite lovely in the role radiating warmth which made it all the more interesting.
I am happy for Marin as well. I still wish the original woman they offered it to would have taken the role but Marin will be wonderful. I am also happy that all of the Lady Gaga rumors were not true.

Interesting but king and I is now on sale until Sept 2016. I wonder if Daniel Dae Kim will extend or how long Marin's contract is for..

Who did they originally offer it to?

^^^ I want to know!! If it fell threw why can't you tell us?? I'm guessing it was alice ripely or Judy Kuhn. Or maybe montego glover

Alice Ripley is going to be in American Psycho, so I doubt they would have offered it to her, given that they know she's unavailable.

Maybe that's why it fell threw. I'll keep guessing. Alison luff jenn gambatese. Or Lesli

A friend of mine told me who it was but I thought it was common knowledge. So I will give you a page 6 clue but I cannot deny or confirm. She is an actress that is appearing on a television series that is in its last season and she recently suffered a personal loss.

I'll guess Baranski who probably would have been fabulous. I am excited to return to see Kelli once more before seeing Marin.
Posted: 2/21/16 at 10:30am
Baranski is 63. I highly doubt it was her.

Baranski's age withstanding, she certainly fits the bill described by SmoothLover perfectly. I would have loved to see her sing this glorious score, and for whatever reason this fell through I'm glad that if this is true that she's considering a return to Broadway after Good Wife wraps.

Probably Kelli will bring the show to London in Autumn, then.

Did Baranski recently experience a personal loss?

Yes, unfortunately she lost her husband a little over a year ago. I think it was around the same time Into The Woods was released.

Baranski?! No way.

Michelle Dockery? Didn't she recently loose her husband?

You're right, it looks like she lost her husband in December 2015. Dockery is much more plausible based on her age, and she does have stage credits to her name, too.

I would have loved to seen Michelle! Love her work on Downton Abbey. And she has a lovely voice.
Posted: 2/21/16 at 4:51pm
Yes, from what I've heard, Michelle Dockery was the actress in question!

Michelle Dockery would be the ideal actress to open it in London. Considering The Sound of Music (probably the biggest name R&H show) couldn't survive in london without a name im not sure why they think this will sell with an unknown like Kelli. Especially when The King and I as a show is done on tour often in the UK

Apparently they just announced open casting for West End transfer with Kelli in the leading role.

I'd imagine it would be a limited run, but the west end will be seeing a lot of big Broadway names this year. Audra and Kelli.
