I love Kelly Ripa...But I think with two shows, and motherhood...A Broadway show would kill her! Maybe during the summer, when the sitcom is on break...But, I'd see her in a heartbeat.
She's adorable. But I'm not sure she could sing well enough to carry the role.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
I heard her announce recently (and then dismiss it quickly as being not meaningful, but simply amusing) that when her son complained about her working so much, and she told him she worked that much so he could have all those toys, that he responded that he'd give all his toys back to have her home more often.
So she doesn't seem to be all that worried about missing out on "family time" for work.

Before we say she cant sing or dance 1. We dont know that 2. We thought the same of Christina (and lots of us including me still think that she cant sing or dance but some say she can 3. I think that she would have to drop Regis, just because it is shot Live at 9:00am and all broadway stars get up at like 12:00, but other than that it is a great choice!!!
Well, she certainly is the right personality for the role. If she truly can carry a tune, I'd be all for it.
But for the record, just because someone's "trained in ballet since they were three" doesn't necessarily mean they CAN dance.

well the thing is...shes always terrified to sing with regis on the show around christmas time when he makes her sing. i dont think shed want to get up in front of a packed theater and worry about nerves and messing up. dont get me wrong, i love kelly, shes adorable. i just dont know if shed actually do it b/c shes always afraid to sing christmas songs with her kids on the show.

In every interview I've read she's said that being a mom is her #1 priority. She's also said that she'll be the first do admit that she has the best job in the world.
I don't think she'd take anything like this on...but if she did, i'd go every day. I love the woman.
Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH!

I don't think she has the acting ability to pull off a good Charity. Maybe Christina wasn't the greatest singer or even dancer, but at least she was believable as this person and I really felt for her.
Hmmm... I think that would be interesting. I always liked watching her. She makes me laugh, but she's also on the almost annoying side. I think it depends on my mood.
I lied, I can't really picture her on a stage. I'd probably go though...
oh my gosh, ljay889, i was thinking the exact same thing! i think she would be marvelous at it! id go see that in a second, i love kelly ripa!!!!!!!! :) and i also think she could make a good glinda :)
Does nobody care that she can't sing? And people wonder why stunt casting happens. Kelly Ripa is very cute and great on Regis and Kelly. But as a Broadway leading lady? No. I think she would also be the first to agree with this.
She's sang on HOPE & FAITH, and it wasn't that bad.
Was Gwen Verdon a great singer? No, she suffered a tragic vocal loss during Charity. Shirley M. a great singer? Nope! Is Ann Reinking a great singer? Not really. Bebe Neuwirth? No, her voice wasn't at its full strength when she played the role. Christina Applegate? No way. Her voice was extremely weak at first. But she worked very hard with Cy Coleman on her voice, and it got A LOT stronger over the run.
Point being, CHARITY was never a role that called for a "great" singer.
Yes, I can see her in the role-and I think it would be a bit of a boost for the show. People LOVE her and she seems to be someone who would do what she had to to pull off the part successfully.

I'll give you "not great" for Charity, but I won't give you "just can't sing" either. And I also have heard Kelly sing, and she just isn't a singer. Cute, bubbly, funny, yes. A singer, no. She was way off key when I heard her, not just weak.
I think she's really good on Hope and Faith, and I watch her on Regis when Regis is off (he's always annoyed me--since I was a kid!). I think she'd be able to pull off the acting. I've never heard her sing or dance so I can't comment there. I just don't think she would do it.
I heard the same story that Rath did, but there was more to it. As she was dropping her son off at school, he asked why she couldn't pick him up after school, and that's how the work discussion got started. She also went on to say that she's home every evening, except on nights that they shoot.
A lot of kids parent's these days don't take them to school or pick them up after, no matter what career their in, so I don't think it's really fair to say that she's not "all that worried about missing out on "family time" for work."
I find it hard to believe that a child would offer to give all their toys back just so their mother could pick them up from school. It has to be a much bigger issue than that.
And, most people who don't pick their children up can't afford to leave work to do so. Kelly has two ridiculously high-paying jobs. One would probably be enough - especially considering her husband also makes stupid money compared to most of the world.

I think you'd be surprised at how many people willingly work late and therefore do not drop or pick their kids up from school, when they are making ridiculous amounts of money. My former bosses (in a marketing firm) would get to work at 8 am, and stay until 8 pm. Add on to that hour long commutes, and they were hardly home. Each one of them had children, ranging in age from 6 months to 20 years. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying that there are people who spend far less time with their kids than I would, and it's not because they can't afford to.
My parent's were both teachers, however my father made enough that my mom wouldn't have had to work, but she wanted to. Because of this, she was not able to pick me up from school every day (and I don't think I'm scarred for life because of it). Does this mean that she should have not worked in a job that she loved while I was growing up? Not in my opinion.
