It is still doing ok.. but it has been on a slow attendance and gross decline. And with the tour playing everywhere and the London run about to begin... has it lost a little of the must see status? The business side of this particular show fascinates me. Especially since the theater it is at was such a flop house for a while.

The show is doing really well, I doubt it only has a year left.

Not counting the holiday engagements of ELF or the tour stop of FELA, the last two productions to play the house -- HOW TO SUCCEED and HAIR -- enjoyed healthy runs and recouped.

It's been a highly successful show, I think it has a very long life.

That is true. Not sure about Hair recouping.. but it did have a sort of healthy run. I lived in that area in the 80's and nothing really ran. Or if it did it would still loose money.
@Margo It has been a very succesful show and has done well. Not sure what that has to do with it lasting another year. Summer is here, school is out, tourists are in.. and it is not selling out like it used to. Doing well. But not like it used to.

Hair did recoup, rather quickly actually.

Posted: 6/22/15 at 3:40pmIt has more than a year left. It's making well above its running cost each week. Not sure how that would lead you to say it's doing "OK"

Easily. It is just doing ok. Not gangbusters. Glad to see so many of you think it will run more than a year. It's summer and it is not selling out ( even if it is doing well) and who knows what winter months will bring. I guess I am more interested in what they do now to keep going.. Well see next year.

I agree it probably has about a year left. It's doing 59% gross potential in summer, it's going to really struggle through next winter and spring.

Interesting that Matilda is now regularly besting Kinky Boots in grosses. Maybe summer crowds and kids out of school influence that, but it seems to be increasing.

I'm planning on seeing it when it tours Austin during the week of November 10, 2015. The only "beef" I have with K.B. is the current advertising. The drag queens seem to have disappeared completely. That seems kind of a let-down.

But do schools pay full price ? They surly would get a discount which would hurt revenue.

Schools do get a discount. My choir went and saw it and our tickets were center orchestra and only read $78 per ticket. There were almost 40 of us.

Yes, schools and camps get discounts.

Jersey Boys and Gentlemans Guide have run the past two years at grosses less than KBs current numbers.

Kinky Boots also has a relatively small running cost in the $600k range compared to Matilda which is in the $800-900k range.

Source? Hard to believe Matilda would have recouped already if its costs were that high. That would also mean Matilda is barely profitable.
Edit: Found the NYT article about Matilda's production suggesting its weekly cost is estimated at $600k. Which is undoubtedly higher than Kinky, but certainly not $300k higher.

Just to be clear, ANY large group can get a discount...doesn't have to be a school or a camp. It can be your mother's bridge club as long as she has enough ticket buyers.
And summer has barely begun. Many public schools in the NE aren't even done yet.

It will probably lose even more of it's must see status with "Hamilton" opening this summer on Broadway.

I think it will last longer than Gentleman's Guide but I am curious to see if Jersey Boys closes before or after KB.
