That Donna Murphy video is excellent, thanks for posting Tag.
I agree that Heather Headley would be great, but I'd also like to see with say... Zeta Jones, Karen Olivo, Bebe Neuwirth (least likely this would happen I suppose), even Kate Hudson, Megan Mullally, Stephanie J Block. I know it's a dream-casting thread which is why I don't mind throwing these names out.
Javier Munoz is an excellent, inspired choice for Valentine.
I'd be interested to see Karen Olivo involved (or even the Hamilton OBC Angelica - sorry forgotten her name) but I do wonder if the show needs a name to survive. An Audra/Cumming/Pasquale team sounds like a real event to me that could attract a sizable enough following. I would absolutely love to see what Audra and Cummimg would do with their roles. Pasquale is more replaceable for me - would be nice for Javier to move on from Hamilton.
Zeta Jones also seems like a natural fit. But the score is more demanding than Night Music and I doubt she could commit to a long run. I see her more in a movie adaptation.

Renee Goldsberry!!!! She won the Tony and was really amazing in the show. I agree want to see Zeta Jones . She is an excellent dancer.

West Side Story "America" Karen Olivo on Letterman. I seriously thought I might be bisexual because of Karen Olivo's dancing.

I think this is the kind of project that might interest Daniel Radcliffe too.
How has no one mentioned Esparza for Molina yet?
Robbie, I'd like to see your Molina.
That's not a euphemism.
Or is it?
How has no one mentioned Esparza for Molina yet?
NO.
Esparza seems too edgy and intense for Molina. He's much more of a Valentin.
I think Molina could use just a titch of edge. There was something...off-putting about Carver in the original that seemed very right. It's a different quality than Esparza would bring, but I'd be interested in seeing him paint with some different colors.
Growl...oh...how I would love to play the role. And you are so kind to suggest it. But I'd probably not even go in for the audition. I do think, like the principal cast of EVITA, it's one of the few shows with leads for Latinx musical theater performers. We can get into the ethnic make-up of Argentina (or whichever South American country it's set), but I think it's best to go with a Latinx actor.
There are many, MANY roles I can play...from The Beadle to Guiteau to the entire principal cast of The Producers (yes I WOULD be an amazing Ulla). I'm ok with giving up Molina.

The Wisslers have the rights and are thinking of putting it up with Bianca Marroquin in 2019

She won't sell. Get Karen Olivo. Do what you need to get her back in NY.
Many years ago, I was approached to play Molina and I would have, but I was moving away to a new city. The actor in me wishes I had stayed. The responsible adult in me watched the recent political and physical devastation to Texas and Houston and is glad I moved to a blue state, even if it meant I would no longer enjoy performing.
But you will sing "Dressing Them Up" for me sometime?
Yaaaaassss...followed by She's a Woman.
Though Where You Are is one of my standards!
Are you saying I have a wonky eye??
Against type, I also sing a pretty fantastic Marta.
Oh God...new cabaret show...Kiss of the SpiderRobbie.

I believe John Kander wants or has wanted Audra for a revival. And then last year I heard whispers about Heather Headley in a revival as well.
I love Mandy, but she's not an Aurora. Karen certainly is, though.
I just love this musical so much. It manages to have some ultimate diva fan service (see: Hello, Dolly!) but manages to also explore some very serious and important themes (I particularly like the ideas around coping with adversity, complex relationships between the two lead males, mother/son relationships and the shame of not being a heterosexual/gender-conforming male). I DON'T think the show manages to capture a particular political or national context well (if I recall correctly this is partly here why some here have not enjoyed it) - it could be set anywhere. But that isn't particularly important to me.
It almost gives me tears to imagine Alan Cumming and Audra side-by-side on stage performing this. This would be one of those revivals that people will be talking about for a long time.
