So who's the new Joly? This matters to me.
Excited to hear that Gavin Lee is coming back to Broadway!

So happy for Chris McCarrell! I saw him go on as Marius a few months ago, and he was fantastic!
I wonder if Jason Forbach is staying with the show. His voice is AMAZING. I saw him on the 25th A tour and in this Broadway run as Enjolras ... I don't understand why he isn't the primary Enjolras, I know he filled in for a little while during the fall.
He has a lot of experience with Phantom of the Opera in Las Vegas as well. With all the controversy over the new Phantom choice I was hoping he auditioned and got a shot on Broadway as the Phantom.

Alan Shaw is playing Joly starting 2/17.
Very excited for everyone! I have seen Chris twice as Marius and he does great justice to the role, I'm thrilled he has gotten bumped up to full time. Also I haven't seen it on the press releases, but Gaten Matarazzo, one of the kids playing Gavroche is leaving March 1st.
Why is Gavin Lee being cast. I can understand him being hired for Mary Poppins because he originated the part. But hiring a British actor for a part that could easily be taken by an American is wrong.
^There's no law that says that only an American actor should be playing a French character on Broadway!
No, but there are Unions.
They're always exchanging people. Maybe they're sending someone over there, I don't know.

That's not even close to being true.
^ How is that not true? She is American. Someone earns their citizenship in a country through marriage
looks like the producers are planning on keeping this open through the summer at least.
Somethingwicked: I can tell you with 100% certainty that that is not true. Also, I don't see why his nationality is an issue here. I would assume most actors would want to be able to perform in as many countries/cities as possible!
Let me clarify- by marrying his wife in 2005, Lee became eligible for an American green card. In the U.S., if you stay married to an American citizen for three years and live in the United States during that window of time, you then become eligible to apply for citizenship. It was then that Lee became a citizen.
My point was that he's had dual citizenship here and in the UK for some time, so there's no Equity issue when it comes to him working on Broadway.

Because that's not the law. American citizenship isn't automatically granted to someone just because they marry a U.S. citizen. Even children born abroad to U.S. Citizens aren't automatically citizens unless they meet certain qualifications.
Quite adroit are you. Well not really.
Somethingwicked is entirely correct.

Actually I'm a prosecutor. Somethingwicked made a declarative statement about citizenship that would lead anyone who read it to believe that marriage to a U.S. citizen by a non-citizen made that person a citizen. It does not. And I was merely pointing it out.
And you thought it was a better option to be rude than to connect the dots, we get it.
Madame Thernardier must have been messing around if she has a white husband and a black daughter. I have no problem with "color blind casting" as long as it isn't illogical or distracting. Last time I saw Les Mis, young Eponine didn't look black but somehow grew up to be a radically different looking black woman.

I had a feeling major cast changes were in the works, im happy that Ramin renewed but does it really matter,he always seems to be out.
For those who are saying "How dare they let a British actor into the show!?" (whether he is British or not)...
Peter Lockyer is currently playing Valjean in London.
