I've met a few people who started performing as kids as Lea did, and many of them, if not most, are socially clueless. They had parents that pushed them, treated them like they were the little stars of the family, bought them ever lesson available, and sent them out to do auditions and shows. They often have very pushy managers and agents who treat them like little queens and kings. In the meantime, they don't have the normal experiences that their school peers do (if they even go to regular schools). The results are predictable. If Lea is that bad, it's probably because no one taught her any better and she doesn't even realize what she missed or why some people don't like her.
One time, Lea Michele punched me in the face...it was awesome.
Once I was in Joe Allen's and I saw Patti eating dinner and Nathan was at the bar. I asked Patti to sing the full version of ROSE'S TURN as Nathan did a strip tease on the bar.
The results were not pretty.
I hate them!
The results were not pretty, but they were at least nice enough to cooperate!
Once I was at Joe Allen and I tried to cut Patti LuPone's hair and she ended up singing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" with me and my friend Wil. Oh, wait, I don't have a life, that was on Wil & Grace.

When Lea has her first onstage meltdown over a cell phone in the audience, then she can be considered a true diva.
Lea peed on me when I asked her autograph. I guess I knew it was happening because it was in the winter and she had to take off a lot of layers first and even told me she was pee shy and yelled at me to wait for her before she did it. Looking back I should have just walked away.

I did a benefit last year and Lea Michele had been a performer the previous year. The performers who had done the show both years were glad she didn't come back.
I met her at the SA stage door. She was very polite, but actually seemed a bit shy.

I worked at the o'neill when SA was there are Lea M was WRETCHED. There was a party at Serafina for last departing obc and she went. Her former cast mates were hiding from her. Direct quote, "oh god, she is coming over here...lets go over there(pointing to other side of the room)!" I won't say who said it but it was uncomfortable seeing the way she talked to people and the way they desperately wanted to get away. Well, uncomfortable and hilarious.
Lea comes from an alternate universe where everything is backwards to what we do here. Her name is really Elehcim Ael. She is constantly translating everything she hears backwards, so you can understand if it makes her testy. Also, her coochie is where her pooper should be, and vice versa. Her left breast is where the right ought to be (by our standards).
I personally don't like her, never did. In an interview the cast of Glee was asked about something to do with... obsessions, I believe, if I'm correct. And when people would say they liked certain things a lot, the rest of the cast would comment on it, saying how adorable/weird that was. Lea never did so. BUT When it was her turn, no one commented at all, and it looked like, even though she was in the center, no one had a bond with her at all.
Though I've heard that she and the actress who plays Quinn (her name escapes me at the moment) are living in an apartment together now. So I don't know.
Lea is an enchanted goat, transformed by an evil witch when she was just a kid. All she wants from life is to be left in peace, munching tin cans next to a ramshackle barn in Appalachia; however, the witch (whose name was Heidi Blickenstaff, but not the same one you're thinking) cursed her with a loud voice that acts as an irresistible siren call to soulless teenage girls and gay men who use too much hair product.
Only if she can play Fanny Brice on Broadway can the curse be undone!
Lea Michelle kicked my shins after I asked for her autograph. True story.
Yeah, but did she still sign?????

I have heard similar stories about her before she was in Glee, but calling her a "Diva" would be the more polite description for what I've heard.
Oh, and it's pretty common for someone to be difficult backstage to castmates and crew, but become ever "so sweet" to stagedoor fans as soon as they walk out the door.
Does anyone else remember the "Idina Menzel threw her light cigarette butt at me when I asked for her autograph" story from back during her NY run?

So, if diva is too nice of a word, is the b word more applicable? I don't think she's the only performer who's like that. What I don't understand is why some of them get away with it, which is probably why the behavior never changes. There are nice actors and actresses who are also talented. Why don't they get the jobs instead of some of the insufferable ones people insist are so talented? IMO, I really don't think Lea is that talented or that good-looking. You see not so nice people making it big in TV and film even more often than stage, so I guess Lea probably doesn't have to worry about it at all now that she has a TV show.
I met her at the Drama Desk Awards after party and she was very sweet and kind.
I'm curious about something. Do you think that artists who generate this type of negative buzz actually give a damn? Is it within the realm of possibility that some (Lea?)take this criticism to heart? Or are they the "who gives a F"!type. Still, a person like Lea who is mega famous now will undoubtedly "fall" at some point. At that point, her detractors will shout with "glee." from RC in Austin, Texas
It's funny how people around here think Lea Michele is "mega famous"! HAHA
I'm pretty sure 98%+ of Americans couldn't pick her out of a shin-kicking line up.
Is 2% all it takes to be "mega" something or other these days???
