IMHO, she sounded fine! Sure, she's a little dramatic vocally, but that's what she does.
"But I don't understand the level of hate for Lea. Did she kick your dog?"
You'd be surprised.

Except you have a completely canned situation with certain things they do every single year, Superbowl, America the Beautiful, jets, blah blah blah. You either do well enough or you blow it. Lea did well enough, Christina blew it.
Most of us can see that whateverman, you can't. That's fine. We didn't drink Kool Aid nor did we drink whatever concoction has arisen your ire.
Well, I certainly wouldn't call her ugly! That's a little harsh. just sayin'

well enough is wack. what the hell is well enough. im sure she is not in the biz for well enough.

Well enough is about all a person can do in a cavernous domed football stadium singing America the Beautiful live. Unfortunately for you, whateverman, Christina Aguilera gave the world a disastrous performance against which Lea sounded like an heavenly angel.

tell whitney that. 1 singer who got it right speaks to the possibilities. period. stop making excuses for lazy lea.

You're not getting any traction on this. Stop trying to make it happen.
^ You're such a schmuck. She should get points for singing it live. Barely any previous singer has ever sang the National Anthem or American the Beautiful live. So since she is suppose to sing live because she is a singer, then go tell that to Whitney Houston who started lip-synching the National Anthem and tell me what she does to you. I would love to know.

idiots. no points for singing it LIVE. thats what skilled singer do!!! GET IT?
Well then you just called some of the most talented people out there who have not sung it life, unskilled. You are the real idiot. Get the hell off this board, troll.

The reason why they often don't sing live is because they are unable to hear themselves, due to the delay on the microphones. It has nothing to do with what skilled singer [sic] do!!!!!!!!!!

nooo troll.. if u sing it LIVE then bring it! she did not. im sure she wasnt forced to sing live but it speaks to her buying her own hype and drinking her own kool-aid. well she found out. btw. anyone need a flashlight? being lodged so deeply in her a$$ it must be difficult finding ur way. ahh that must explain the delusion.

I'm not sure somebody who joined three years after somebody else gets to kick the person off the board.
I thought it was decent. Maybe it was being live, but she doesn't seem to have a spectacular voice. But, it was the best performance of the night.
"You'd be surprised."
Maybe I would. I've heard some negative whispers about Lea as a person but I don't really put much thought into. To me she's a stranger and I just don't have the energy to put into hating strangers. I guess I'll just never get the level of hate people can have for someone they don't even know. And not just Lea.

she did an excellent job!
I'm glad everyone is confirming that she sang live because my roommate swears up and down it was pre-recorded.
I actually think Lea has a great voice, but this performance shows how much her voice has become affected by GLEE. Too many pop-isms that did nothing musically or dramatically, poor vowels, and her tone was off several times. And that sophomoric arrangement did nothing to heighten the song, or her performance.
I do give her and Christina props for singing live, but it's moments like these (I'm looking at you, Christina) that make you realize pre-recording these things is actually a good idea.
And I also think Christina's voice is like manna from heaven. Just the voice. Not the excessive riffs.

But it was in honor of our beautiful country.
I usually think Lea Michele has a nice voice, but this was utterly painful to me!
You people need to calm down. It wasn't the best of her performances, for sure. However, If one checks out some other of her performances they are awesome. The superbowl messed up this year by not pre-recording America the Beautiful and National Anthem to avoid all this post-game drama.
"she did an excellent job!"
Didn't you promise to leave forever as soon as Women On The Verge closed? At least have the decency to start a new screen name. If you're going to be a troll, at least be a troll with integrity.
I am not a fan of Lea Michele's -- not by a long shot, but geeze! She's still a human being with feelings (presumably).
And she's given IN to pop and been too affected by Glee? She IS pop...thanks to that TV show. Her fans because of the show far outweigh her fans from Spring Awakening -- so she's going to give them what they expect.
It will be interesting to see where any of these Glee actors go after this. (But we may have to wait awhile before we find out. I'm still amazed at the success of this show.)
Why the hate? This is what happens when a theatre actor goes mainstream. "Theatre people" hate on them.
