I just went to the boards on IMDB and someone posted a quote a link from an article that came from the U.K.
"Taylor Swift was rumoured to be competing against Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson and Evan Rachel Wood to play Eponine."

Maybe they have a good point when they said "was" is not good a sign for her.

Nobody connected to the production has EVER said anything about Swift being involved. It's ALL been rumors, and it could very well have been a publicity stunt, or the studio testing public reaction.
Hopefully we'll find out soon.

Has anyone thought that maybe this aspect that is not true could be that Swift "HAD ALREADY BEEN CAST IN THE ROLE"? We know that she's not officially confirmed for the film and maybe she's still being considered.

Isn't it kind of weird that she's been in hiding since the announcement of her being offered the role? Why would she do that though? If someone asks her about it, all she would have to say is that she can't talk about it at this time. I almost feel like if she takes on this role, she will have some major haters. She's America's Sweetheart! Is that what they want to happen to her perfect reputation?

A person on IMDB said that their associate told them that Hooper heard about the bad reaction of Swift being offered the role and now he is having second thoughts. Who knows if they are telling the truth?
But if this really is true, then I will be disappointed because as I've stated before, it's really sad that there were very few people willing to give her chance. Hooper should give her one as well.

Posted: 1/19/12 at 1:50pmWell sometimes studios or Directors will throw names out there to get reactions from people. I thought they were going to use her because of her popularity with fans and not because of talent. Its not a surprise that she can't really sing. So why else would they choose her for such an iconic role? Which brings me back to this...If fans go against her, then it would make since to reconsider casting her. I just think they should cast someone who can sing and have talent. It just seems like they are looking for someone who will pull in the box office numbers and who have popularity with the fans. Well they can have talent and popularity with someone like Emma Stone. Why not do a voice over on someone like her?

Posted: 1/19/12 at 2:09pmThank you Wildcard. But some of the complaints about swifts singing voice are terribly overblown especially with the orginal the performance it vocally was. Shouldn't we all reserve judgements until we hear her sing on my own. She mit be just fine.

I know it's rude of us to make a fuss over Miss Swift - she's a great songwriter and role model. It's just that most of us have been waiting for this film adaptation for YEARS - we're emotionally invested in "Les Miserables", and we want someone whom we KNOW can nail the role - not someone who MIGHT do well. We all know that Eponine needs to be a broadway belter with a strong voice, which Frances Ruffelle- even with the debate over her voice vs. other Eponines - obviously was. I suppose there is a chance that Taylor's never been able to show certain aspects of her voice simply due to the style of her songs (like Nicole Scherzinger and her opera training), but I'm afraid that chance seems rather slim, seeing as she sings the American national anthem and "Tonight" from West Side Story with the same voice as she does her own songs...
I'd like to add that I think Taylor Swift would make a good Ilse in "Spring Awakening" though!

The musical's official website wrote an article on Aaron Tveit offically being confimred. It also says that Amanda Seyfried HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN CONFIRMED to play Cosette.
"Also confirmed are Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Eddie Redmayne as Marius and Amanda Seyfried as Cosette."
However, there is no mention of Bonham-Carter, Baren Cohen, or Swift.

I'm not a big Seyfried fan either, but Cosette is such a small part that I don't think I'll mind her. She pretty much disappears after 'One Day More' and doesn't show up again until the show's almost over. She doesn't have any huge solo songs like Fantine or Eponine do.
If you go out for popcorn when she and Marius start singing and come back once the attack on the Rue Plumet starts, you'll pretty much miss her entire part.

Posted: 1/19/12 at 8:19pmBut you shouldn't feel that way about Cosette. She's a great character in the novel and I love her part vocally. I'm always more into legit soprano than belting.

Posted: 1/19/12 at 9:18pmI agree, and it's a shame that the show pretty much reduced her to the typical pretty female romantic lead who gets nothing to do but moon over Marius. At the end she becomes his reward for surviving the barricade. She has a few flashes of personality when she challenges Valjean for clues to her past but that's about it. I guess there just wasn't time to make her anything more and I doubt the movie will try. They'll probably focus on Fantine and Eponine because their stories are more compelling and tragic.

Jeff Nicholson was in the 25th Anniversary concert as the Factory Foreman lusting after Fantine. I've seen him in the stage show a few times -- he's excellent.

Swift will be at the Sundance Film Festival tomorrow. Lets see if she will either confirm or deny any of these rumors.
Quote:
TAYLOR SWIFT will make her first trip to the Sundance Film Festival on Friday. The singer/songwriter will attend the premiere of Rory Kennedys HBO documentary Ethel, about her mother, Ethel Kennedy.
End quote
I thought she would be at the People's Choice Awards, but she did not attend them. But now that she will be making an appearance at an event, she has the chance to set the record straight.
