Les Miserables Movie Casting Rumors and Filming Date

Love Hathaway. Her voice has matured so nicely, while Adams kinda has a cute kiddy voice.

Plus, after The Dark Knight Rises Hathaway will be a legend.

Despite really like Anne Hathaway, I don't like the idea of her as Fantine, at the moment; I much prefer the possibility of Amy Adams. Maybe because I haven't seen many of Hathaway's dramatic roles, I can see Adams as Fantine more. That said, if Hathaway is cast, I'm sure she will be fine, or at least I hope she will be.
I'm fully behind Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter as the Thenardiers.

Is the set of lines about Thenardier being at Waterloo (picking the pockets of the English dead) still in the show? That's how it's explained there. If those lines are gone, then they might just ditch the Waterloo coat in the movie rather than have the audience confused by it.

No, it was part of the overtime cuts over 10 years ago, but that doesn't mean they can't re-insert it for the movie. (I think some regional theatres can opt to use it.)

I have been waiting for Hathaway to get another meaty dramatic role after her stunning turn in Rachel Getting Married. And I have been waiting for her to do a musical. That casting would make me doubly happy! I did also like the Cotillard suggestion, though.

As much as I am tepid on Lea Michele, I would take her in the cast a thousand times over someone like Miranda Cosgrove. Why not just cast Miley Cyrus as Eponine?

And I think Helena Bonham Carter would be inspired as Mme. Thenardier. It's not much of a singing role, but I think she'd be up to what singing there is. I liked her in Sweeney, but think she was playing that role, and I'm sure her performance would be entirely different in this. Anyone who thinks she can't do bold and loud should watch her performance as Belatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter films. I'd just be happy if they cast anyone in a Thenardier that isn't a comic; I'd like to see the darker undertones played on film.

I'm fine with either Adams or Hathaway. I would have preferred Adams, but it's completely subjective. I'm just happy they are actually casting good singers who are also first rate actors in the major singing/dramatic roles, for a change. The fact that they are movie stars, while certainly not incidental, isn't for once the controlling factor.

It is never suggested in the show that Gavroche is the Thenadiers' son in the show, although he is in the novel.

Colin Farrell as Enjolras?
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

The BWW "News Desk" needs to proof read their copy before going to print:

Anne Hathaway was last associated with LES MISERABLES when she belted out her own version of "Own My Own" at February's Oscar ceremony to past host Hugh Jackman.

Is no one else concerned about the rumor of Russell Crowe as Javert? Physically, yeah, I see it, but searching youtube for clips of him singing -- his voice is less than great. Jackman will completely overpower him - and I just can't see him warbling his way through Stars...

I don't see the fascination with Hathaway in general. She's an okay actress, sometimes good, and is a pretty good singer in my opinion, but I don't buy her acting chops. Her casting is due to one single reason: to put butts in the seat. She's basically the new Julia Roberts. Hollywood is really pimping her out at the moment and I'm always cautious about who they throw at me. I'll be excited and give her credit when I see the product, if ever.

I'm not too concerned about Crowe, mostly because I don't think he's going to play the part. I haven't seen any solid indications that he's been signed, it's all just rumors. I think it'd be fairly big Hollywood news if he were actually going to take the role. I think it's actually going to go to Paul Bettany.

Even if he was hired, they'd probably just tweak his voice in the postproduction until they got it to where they wanted it. It doesn't matter much what he sounds like live.

If any role can do with stunt casting it's Fantine. She sings three songs and dies. Anne Hathaway is HUGE at the moment so totally right for the role. Granted, it may be a surprise if anyone goes see it for her and she's dead in the first 30 minutes, but it got them to buy the ticket.

You know what would be a GENIUS marketing plan? Get like four different actresses to do Fantine - big big names, and rotate when they are put into the theater. How many theater geeks would go every time so they could compare? They'd only have to reshoot a few scenes with the actresses -- it would sell a ton of extra tickets.
Or maybe that's just a crazy idea and I'm still waking up.

No, because it's just that -- a rumor.

Exactly. *Nobody* has been confirmed yet, apart from Hugh Jackman, and he's only confirmed because he's said he's got the part himself. Every article I read that claims Hathaway has been 'confirmed' as Fantine actually only confirms that she's in talks for the role, or considering it.

I would assume Hooper won't cast her unless she's right for the part. He's usually pretty careful with his casting and I wouldn't think he'd just hand her such an important role just because Hugh Jackman wants her for it.

I haven't seen any reliable indications that Crowe is playing Javert yet either. If he is he hasn't mentioned it.

In a new article on the filming delay for The Wolverine, VARIETY confirms the switch in filming schedules for The Wolverine and LesMis --

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118042116

>>Production, which will take place in Tokyo and Vancouver, is expected to start next year after Jackman wraps Tom Hooper's "Les Miserables" for Universal.<<<

Does this mean that LesMis is ready to start filming earlier than expected, compared to its original rescheduling (presumably to accomodate Hugh Jackman's Wolverine filming commitment)? It seems the screenplay adaptation by Bill Nicholson is ready. Hopefully, the casting will be finalized and announced soon.
