I feel like someone close to Usnavi would win the Hamilton lottery, and there'd be a big debate if they should go or sell the tickets for $96,000 on StubHub.
I think the prices for Odom's return are exorbitant, to be sure, but it's effectively an event engagement. He's in it for two months and prices will revert once he's done. And Hamilton is a decade-old production that tours extensively and has even been made available for years now with a high-quality video recording that anybody can stream- with Odom and the entire OBC in it. It's basically as accessible as a modern production can possibly get.
Okay, if Hamilton labels itself as entertainment business, and not educational art, well then fair's fair. Dog eat dog. Screw the middle classes, as Evita once said. Broadway is for the rich. Which is why I fully understood Jamie Lloyd's recent creative decision to have Rachel Zegler perform directly to the people out on the street, the descamisados.
Lin Manuel Miranda prides himself on caring about the "descamisados", but the outrageous Hamilton pricing does not reflect that. Is that such a terrible thing for me to say?

I'm not quite sure what other form people want or expect with everything that we currently have. The only other option people have mentioned is an actual movie but that gets a big fat NO from me dawg
I wonder if Odom is getting a percentage of the gross?

It seems the only thing that might satisfy Jay Lerner-Z are premium seats for Hamilton available to the masses on a Pay What You Can/Want basis.
That's just silly. In the same spirit of worthless exaggeration...
It seems the only thing that will satisfy SteveSanders is a million bucks per head, or better yet, the likes of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos renting out the whole theatre to themselves each night at 50 million.
Jay, I understand where you're coming from (and I think others are very much misstating your points when they reference whining teenagers), but it does kind of sound like you think making money and making art are mutually exclusive. I think Sondheim used to talk about artsy friends who resented him for living a comfortable life. Was Sondheim a bad guy, or somehow less of an artist, for ending up with a $70 million estate?

Beyoncé is not an ally. Actions speak louder than words, Mrs. Carter. #Dubai #$$$
Your ranting about this topic is getting more and more bizarre! Maybe time to take your meds??
PS And why are you dragging Beyonce into it??

JSquared, I've taken my meds. Thanks for the concern. Just an FYI, but using that as a way to demean somebody is kinda outdated and gross.
Oh, and I am not dragging Mrs. Carter into this. You're obviously reading already in reply mode, where a poster's signature shows up as regular text. You're here long enough to know that, I would think.
Kdogg, I don't begrudge Sondheim his financial success. Or anybody else, as long as they earn it fairly. Actually, I think it's a shame he didn't get to reap the rewards of the recent Merrily. The man who created Hamilton is at least benefitting from this price-gouging, I guess.
