That ending just sounded dreadful. They couldn't come up with a satisfying conclusion, with singing or not, apparently.
Although at first, they had Lestat suckling from Akasha's breast before all the ghosts or whatever came out to sing about their (un)life lessons, which was just... um... yeah.
"For everyone that comes along, knocking on this door,
Don't blame me, it's your fault, that I want more!"
I never got that first line. Eesh that's bad.
The lyric is:
"For anyone that comes along, knocking on death's door,
Don't blame me; it's your fault that I want more!"
The lyrics aren't good, but they do make sense.

I'm pretty sure it will get as many cast recordings as Carrie got
but as has been said, it's not like nothing at all has been left of this show, there are several items to please fans.
and... B3TA07: I wonder about Flyrope as well. It's not totally gone as it seems but someone seems to work on the site for ages now.
Ah, that lyrics makes much more sense.
It's a pity I never got to see the show. Bad as I'm sure it was, it has a lot of elements I enjoy (gothic, pop score, but not overblown sung through like phantom). Oh, well. Maybe its time to go shoe shopping, my old ones are looking a little worn out.
DID ANYBODY NOT GET THAT?
...yeah. We get the whole shoe bit.
This freaking thread is the reason that I watched Drewstat on my computer at 3 am this morning...and I noticed for the first time that he totally choked on a laugh as he said 'I am the vampire Lestat and I will forever'. Mwahahaha. Best last line ever.
And I've had Right Before My Eyes on loop in my brain for the past like, 11 hours. Gob help me and make it go away.
A friend who saw the show in SF the same weekend I did (right before Noseworthy left) called the "From the Dead" finale a cross between Les Miz and Aida. Much worse than either, of course.
I'm a sucker for A Capella bits too. At least that ending had more of a melody than the other one. Though the other one had that solo violin at the end, which if you want to read into it represents Nicolas...which is kinda cute.
This show...sigh.
If there were a Tony category for the worst musical of the year with the best cast, Lestat so would have won that year. :)
Or ANY year...wait, unless it was against The Pirate Queen.
Any updates on this? Or is Elton hellbent as ever to make sure it never sees the light of day?

Damn....I sure talked out of my ass back in the day, didn't I/
Mattbrain, I think it's cute.
Jack the Ripper is finally getting their 1975 London cast album released by Stage Door next month after 40 years. Anything is possible!
Maybe we just have to wait until Elton is no longer with us? Or will he become a vampire? Either way...
It took Elizabeth Taylor dying to see a digital release of the soundtrack to A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC.
I like the him becoming a vampire. He could than eternally roam the earth singing songs from Lestat & Dance Of The Vampires.

I'll be honest, seven years later, I do enjoy the score as a guilty pleasure and wouldn't mind having some extra Carmello on my iPod.
I have a live recording of the show that's very high fidelity (thought it was a studio cast until I listened to it again and heard applause in the background). There's a reason why Elton John didn't want it released: it's terrible.

I was one of the "lucky" few to preview this show in san francisco.
People were literally in shock at intermission.....
A few thoughts:
This is just a poor choice for a subject and story for a musical
The book was awful
I could not connect with or care about any of the characters
the lyrics and music were not up to Elton's or Bernies finest. I loved Aida and had
really high expectations, and have been a fan of eltons since the mid 70s
coming back and listening to a few of the songs people said they really liked ten years later hasnt really changed my mind on anything
That being said, would be in favor of releasing a cast album...all musicals are awesome even when they are completely not awesome.....

quality of these recordings are really really good and should satisfy most fans until the cast album is released. In case any of you dont know, you can strip audio from youtube to mp3 with any one of a number of free youtube to mp3 converter(just google it)
cheers
I'm surprised this was never worked on. Has it had a production since? You'd think with elton john attached it would have at least materialized elsewhere.
I would love for this to have a proper release.
I like Elton's music, but Taupin clearly has no idea what he's doing when it comes to writing lyrics for a show.
There are some beautiful songs though.
Cast album won't be released unless someone actually wants to work on it. It was recorded, but as I understand (and I can't remember where I heard this; I think it may actually have been here), it was never actually fully mixed. So all that exists are the "stems." For the cast album to be released, someone (likely in Elton John's camp) would have to go back, listen to the tracks, and complete the mixes. And Elton doesn't even want people to know it exists. So...
